The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous centers understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don’t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of a skills assessment using diagnostic tools and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan’s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. Camps and after-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.

K2 Snorkel preps divers for aquatic immersion with award-winning dive technology from Kapitol Reef. Swimmers outfit faces with a low-volume, two-lens mask that fits snuggly over noses and eyes with adjustable buckles. Masks are engineered to provide divers with a wide field of vision perfect for spotting school busses full of carp, and also boast tempered glass, a purge system, and silicone skirting. Equipped with Kadence breathing technology, Kapitol snorkels keep airways well stocked through separated inhalation and exhalation tubes that prevent rebreathing of oxygen-depleted air. A snag-free clip reduces the snorkel’s drag and ensures that air flutes stay close to the head, and a silicon mouthpiece helps reduce strain on the jaw muscle. To complete the underwater ensemble, Reef Runner fins with built-in glide channels and drag-reducing vents help divers power through the water with more agility than a cat on a tight rope. The color of each package varies with size: large comes in black or pink, medium in pink or red, and the small/kids size comes in yellow. Call K2 Snorkel for more information about Christmas delivery options.
HexLab Makerspace started as a rapid prototyping firm that used high-tech gadgets to help companies realize their vision for new products. However, it wasn't long before HexLab noticed an increasing public demand for their services and technologies?especially 3D printing, 3D scanning, and laser cutting. This sparked the decision to convert the workspace into a full-blown laboratory and throw open the doors to creative-minded people who want to try their hand at making things.
In addition to advanced tools, the lab now offers guidance on using such machinery in hands-on classes. Students learn how to sculpt or create 3D models, work with metal, and create unique objects as gifts or works of art. Visitors at the space pursue all sorts of projects, including creating miniature replicas of themselves to mail to loved ones.

Jill Kirsh's history with fashion dates back to childhood, when her parents worked in the heart of New York City's fashion district. It was this background that led to the discovery that discerning the most flattering hues for a client's makeup and clothing would be the key to her business. Boasting a résumé that includes features and awards from InStyle, the Los Angeles Times, and Los Angeles Magazine, she's created swatch books to guide men and women as they pick out complementary apparel and makeup kits. Kirsh will even come to your home and make over existing wardrobes and makeup arsenals, pinpointing which pieces work with your coloring.
Food Forward connects people with food by harvesting excess produce from local farms and public spaces, which it distributes to more than 20 food banks and pantries across Southern California. After receiving an invitation, an all-volunteer force meets at a property and picks produce for one to two hours. A pick leader provides tools, organizes the group, and delivers the fruit to a vetted hunger-relief organization that serves it to clients within 72 hours. By conducting 15–20 picks every month, Food Forward aims to demonstrate the abundance of available food that goes to waste and to raise the issues of urban hunger and food justice in the community.
