Outdoor Xtreme Chesapeake City amps up fun and imagination with eight battle fields where fans of paintball and airsoft can safely play out realistic battle scenarios. Elaborate, multi-level structures and makeshift shacks offer decent protection, while a downed nose-in-the-dirt airplane makes for a perfect rallying point. If players still need a place to duck and cover, they can always march to the rusty barrels in front the oil refinery. To lend authenticity to each scenario, all of these fields are lined with actual grass and framed by real trees, instead of actors who play trees.

At Mansion House Paintball, mature trees tower over wooded fields with boughs battered by kaleidoscopic shrapnel. Paintball soldiers dive behind these tree trunks or weave through barrels, wood panels, or cable rungs in all-season, outdoor battle played in rain or sunshine. Individuals can walk on for games during the weekend, and private groups or corporate teams can reserve the fields for parties or retreats to determine who cleans out the corner office’s adjoining stable.

At North East Adventure Paintball, adventure is a family affair. Charles Narvel, his son Austin, and his nephew Shawn opened the 6.5-acre facility in May 2008 with the goal of providing a safe venue for exhilarating rounds of paintball. Before the grand opening, the trio parceled the acres into six themed fields and dotted each landscape with matching obstacles: Old Castle field has a stone fortress with multiple levels and a tower; Civil War field features simulated headquarters and trenches.

Today, players 9 or older sprint across the six fields in games of elimination, respawn, Alamo, sharpshooter, and capture the flag. Eco-friendly, oil-free paint splatters against protective gear as players duck behind shelters or leap over barriers. Lower-speed paintball guns are available for younger players whose reflexes have not evolved into cats just yet. After an adrenaline-fueled battle, players can eat food they've brought with them at shaded, sheltered picnic tables, or purchase food and drink at the concession stand. Party packages include a referee.

Ripe with competition, the atmosphere surrounding New Jersey Motorsports Park provides ample activities suited for South Jersey families. One part of the park is Battlegrounds Paintball?the facility's paintball fields that aim to not only give players a paintball game, but a unique paintball experience. Situated on 10 acres of land, adventurous souls aged 10 and older can partake in splattering game styles, ranging from capture-the-flag to organized scenarios.

At the other part of the park, a track pulses with the roar of engines, a siren's call to professional and amateur racers and the crowds that cheer them on. From spring through late fall, the track?s major events entice fans young and old and range from open-wheel racing to karting. With little to no experience, amateur drivers can arrive and drive with the track's F1 karting program, which sends similarly skilled drivers careening around the bends of a track that features six different configurations and 11 prime spots to throw a well-aimed koopa shell at the competition.

CBS Baltimore lauds Robinhood Paintball as one of the best paintball arenas near the city, but the year-round, 10-acre facility is actually eight arenas in one. Here, players clad in protective gear race around the airball field's bobbing inflatables, duck behind the wood-spool field's namesake spools or wrap their opponents in giant piles of unused thread. Elsewhere, they sneak through the tall trees and verdant brush of three wooded fields or storm the arena's towering castle. Thorough safety orientations prepare each player before they enter the facility, where referees keep watchful eyes over every game to ensure everyone's safety and compliance with the rules.

Founded by a professional player and made up of four fields, Route 40 Paintball Park is the perfect place to get serious about the sport. The referees kickoff every splatter session with a safety orientation to ensure everyone is playing fair and by the rules. Once the competition begins, the ref makes judgment calls when necessary. And players can look the part, too, by renting camouflage jumpsuits to help them better blend in while they duck behind barricades. Of course, the primary objective here is fun, so the facility welcomes first-time shooters, and encourages guests to bring snacks.
