In 2001, the first of many ziplines began to sprout from the grounds surrounding the Old Mill Farm. The cows would inspect the strange contraptions quizzically, but they soon grew comfortable with the droves of smiling guests whooshing overhead. Today, spread across more than 100 acres near the North Oconee River in Lula, Georgia, North Georgia Canopy Tours lead groups on high-flying adventures. Complete with commemorative photo packages, the tours entertain guests with serene views and exhilarating activities. The ziplines reach up to 70 feet off the ground and extend as far as 850 feet, allowing zipliners to catch glimpses of flying squirrels migrating south in V formation.
Staff also welcome visitors to stay overnight in 15 campsites and several authentic Native-American teepees equipped with amenities such as electricity and air conditioning. The walls of each teepee bear custom-painted Cherokee symbols representative of the seven Cherokee Clans, for which North Georgia Canopy Tours' seven campgrounds are named.
The two-story indoor facility at Escalade Rock Climbing Gym is home to climbing challenges that range in difficulty from easy wall routes to 80 feet of continuous roof climbing. An impact-resistant padded flex floor ensures safety during all ascensions, and a punching bag and free-weight area encourage guests to work on building core climbing strength and roundhouse-kick dismounts off the wall. The gym hosts adult and youth classes that help students pull bodily strength and problem-solving skills into perfect harmony and learn the sport's unique terminology.
Big Frog Expeditions charts a course for exploration with safe and exciting white-water excursions down the flowing water tresses of the vibrant Ocoee River. Customers can choose to travel the Upper Ocoee River or the Middle Ocoee River on one of the available rafting dates, spending one-and-a-half of their three to four hours tackling the rapids with Big Frog. The Middle Ocoee contains 26 adventure-packed rapids over a five-mile stretch of dam-controlled river. The Upper Ocoee section began displaying its thoroughbred prowess while hosting the 1996 Olympic white-water competition, splashing the world's best athletes with splashes of raw adrenaline.
Anyone with a compass and a good pair of shoes can walk through a forest. Lake Lanier Canopy Tours' guides make it their mission to give lovers of the outdoors a unique view of nature from ziplines and sky bridges that snake through the treetops around Lake Lanier Islands Resort. All in all, 30 ziplines stretch above terra firma to form several distinct paths for exploring the canopy. The Lakeside tour follows four sky bridges and several ziplines that pass over Lake Lanier itself, and the Legacy Night tour takes riders equipped with headlamps and lanterns across seven ziplines. The company's most adventurous excursion, the Pine Isle tour, makes its way across a total of 11 ziplines, including the Duals, twin lines that send riders side by side for 1,500 feet at speeds upwards of 50 miles per hour.
Professional guides accompany every adventure to make sure participants are safe as they soar down the lines, traverse sky bridges, and negotiate with eagles for permission to use their trees. All of the tours are designed and built by Association for Challenge Course Technology professionals, and all gear, decks, cables, helmets, and harnesses are certified for safety.
Fire Wire Zip Lines gets mankind off the ground with zipline flights in the Blue Ridge Mountains. After their daily safety inspection, the side-by-side Fire Wire lines are ready to launch riders out of the trees and over verdant hills on a 1,700-foot adventure. Fire Wire Zip Lines also offers the Blue Ridge Canopy Adventure, an adrenaline-pounding two-hour tour composed of a series of 15 ziplines that takes place at heights of up to 90 feet. As they swing through the trees, gaze into Dead Man's Gorge, and teeter at the Edge of Insanity, steely nerved adventurers enjoy the view while staying focused on the finish-line prize—the conferral of Canopy Hawk status—and keeping an eye out for opportunities to high-five the endangered High Fivin' Bird
Located in a historic train depot in Jonesboro—the setting for Margaret Mitchell’s _Gone With the Wind_—the Road to Tara Museum assembles memorabilia and artwork inspired by the novel and its classic 1939 film adaptation. Visitors can meander past reproductions of the costumes worn by Vivien Leigh or peruse the many foreign translations of the book. The voice of Fred Crane, who played Brent Tarleton on screen, narrates sights throughout the museum, regaling with behind-the-scene tales of the movie set and Clark Gable’s mustache wax. Regular tours extend the educational experience outside the museum walls, exploring Clayton County’s various plantations and historic battlefields still littered with cork pop guns and broken water balloons
