A two-tiered driving range and two 18-hole miniature-golf courses welcome visitors to Branchburg Family Golf Center’s 27-acre golf complex for game improvement and friendly competition. Each tier at the range comprises more than 30 hitting stalls and features a natural-grass tee area that remains open from April through September. In colder months, 12 recently installed heaters keep golfers cozy or help them sweat off pounds to drop a weight class in golf-cart jousting. Professional instructors roll in when players reach an improvement plateau, offering their keen expertise to develop consistent swings that lead to lower scores.
The center’s two miniature-golf courses summon putts past crashing waterfalls and through lush landscapes, fostering a sense of friendly competition in a pint-sized oasis. When swatting stationary spheres becomes too easy, visitors can head over to the batting facility to work on baseball swings and tackle techniques when charging the mound at a cyborg pitcher.:m]]
After high school, Michael Richardson spent the next 15 years training show horses and winning a bushel of regional trophies at Richardson Stables. He eventually moved to Frenchtown, New Jersey, where he worked for Revelation Farm as a trainer and met his future wife, Jessie Kieren, who pioneered Revelation’s riding program. Fusing components of their respective last names, they founded Kierson Farm, whose verdant greens and indoor heated facilities house a fleet of trained American saddlebred show horses that ferry riders of all ability levels. The farm’s boarding services demonstrate their dedication to caring for hooved friends by delegating one staff member for every five horses, ensuring that each steed receives tender attention when not studying pig Latin.
The gym at Maximum Fitness is stacked with enough stair climbers, treadmills, aerobics machines, and weightlifting equipment to bulk up a beanpole if beanpoles had arms and legs. The center, with cheery yellow walls, also stocks free weights such as dumbbells and barbells, as well as certified personal trainers to instruct on the proper use of workout gear. Classes such as Zumba, Les Mills BodyPump, and yoga give gym-goers motivating group environments in which to get fit, and nutrition programs help them keep fit. A childcare center accommodates busy parents.
A native of Northern Ireland, Fedelmia Mullan Davis started Irish dancing when she was five years old. With her graceful movements and a strong sense of rhythm, she went on to win three All-Ireland championships and five Ulster championships. Upon arrival in the U.S., Fedelmia and five other T.C.R.G.-certified instructors founded the Irish Dancing Teachers Association of North America in New York City. This organization blossomed to include more than 600 certified teachers and maintains ties to its parent body in Ireland. Fedelmia also founded the Davis Academy of Irish Dancing and has spent the past 45 years training students of all ages in the art of Irish dance. Over the years, her students—along with her daughters and grandchildren—have followed in her sprightly footsteps by competing at the championship level.
When Hillsborough Pool, Racquet & Fitness opened in 1979, it was solely a racquetball venue. Since then, renovations have morphed the building into a 25,000-square-foot fitness mecca. The facility now boasts a revamped façade, a nursery, remodeled locker rooms, and a fitness area furnished with Life Fitness cardio and strength-training machines. Instructors stage spinning, yoga, Zumba, and Pilates classes inside fitness studios and aqua-aerobics classes in the indoor 55’x25’ pool, which also houses the facility’s resident humpback whale.
