  • Sylvan Learning Burlingame
Understanding that each child learns differently, the staff members of Sylvan Learning Center’s numerous study centers design custom lesson programs. Based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews, the staff works with students to help them to firmly grasp basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and how to remember facts without tattooing them to their chest. Programs target students in kindergarten through grade 12 and mold to various learning styles, helping kids to feel more comfortable in the classroom. After-school or summer classes can ready high-school students for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college admissions officers with their superior writing skills, exemplary test scores, and willingness to arm-wrestle the school mascot.

  • NorCal Youth Football Camp
The experienced coaches at Norcal Youth Football Camps teach players of all skill levels ages 7–14 to safely maximize their potential on and off the field. Entrust a fledgling fullback or young sacking sensation to camp director Ken Peralta and his perpetually Gatorade-soaked coaching staff for four days as they mold raw talent into finely tuned wide receivers, linebackers, and linemen. The first half of the camp, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., involves warm-ups and a defensive clinic before campers break for a half hour lunch. Lunch is followed by offensive clinics, games, and an autograph-perfecting tutorial to round out the day, which concludes at 2 p.m.

  • Sonoma State University-Attorney Assistant Program
During the seven-production season at Sonoma State, curtains rise on young talent in five diverse theater productions and two dance concerts. In How I Learned to Drive, a Pulitzer-Prize-winning drama running October 20–28, a woman revisits her coming-of-age, addressing common motifs such as family strife, birds and bees, and outgrowing her retainer. Productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which runs November 3–12, and Oklahoma!, running February 7–19, entertain audiences with beloved scripts, and the all-new Super Mega Molten Hot Lava New Play Festival December 8–10 regales audiences with a grab bag of student-written scripts. The farcical whodunit Loot, March 8–17, finishes the theater season with a guffaw. Meanwhile, dancers take the stage during student-choreographed fall dance concerts held December 1–4 and featuring a medley of hip-hop, jazz, and ballet that showcases the body's ability to express grace, rhythm, and a desire for zesty nachos. The spring dance concert, running April 20–28, hosts guest choreographers, who bring an expert eye to craft all-new routines.

  • Bennett Valley Union School District
Today they’re playfully dubbed “The Boot Camp Guys,” but Jaron Eliopoulos and Jeffrey Sears were merely students of kinesiology when they met in 2005. After bonding over a shared passion for fitness, the two began to move toward their current nickname by leading boot camp on the side of personal-training jobs. But when their camp spread to two cities and more than 100 patrons, the amount it takes to overthrow a tyrannical couch potato, Jaron and Jeff could ignore their calling no more and LiveFit Boot Camp was born. Accountability is the glue that holds campers together at the sessions, which are held at parks all over the region. Jeff and Jaron dream up a new workout each day and turn it over to trainers who not only encourage the clients that attend, but also check in with no-shows to make sure they’re staying on track. Through combinations of sprinting, suspension training, kettlebell moves, and other exercises, the routines keep muscles guessing and attendees engaged.
