Parkpoint Health Club has been a part of the Sonoma County landscape since 1983, when Bill and Lindy Buchanan opened their first health club in Santa Rosa. Over the last three decades, the club has earned its reputation with three locations, a diverse lineup of fitness equipment, a friendly and professional staff of trainers, and supplementary amenities such as massage therapy, facials, and nutritional counseling. Adults can get their sweat on in Pilates, yoga, cycling, and Zumba classes, and kids can enjoy after-school play in childcare while their parents work out.

Each year, Mud Factor plows into towns across the country towing along a fun, yet challenging 5K course full of obstacles and mud to trudge through. But it's not just the adults who get covered in the dirty stuff. Mud Factor Kidz offers all the steep hills, muddy pits, and dark moments of introspection as the grownup course. Athletes between 4 and 13 years old run between 1.5 and 2 miles. Costumes are encouraged for runners who like to rock their own style.

As they enter the training circuit at Curves, female guests come face-to-face with the smiles of other women. And just as points on a circle share a common distance from the circle's center, workout participants share the experiences of those nearby by trading stations throughout the 30-minute training session. Thirty seconds is spent on a piece of strength-training equipment built for feminine frames and designed to work two opposing muscle groups with a single movement. Exercisers then move on to a recovery station, where they run, jog, or dance to maintain heart rates and keep platforms in place during momentary losses of gravity.

Napa Valley Adventure Boot Camp owner Jeff Larson and his team of trainers know all about breaking a sweat. Each day, they challenge their students with fitness classes that string cardio and resistance workouts into a challenging chain of intense exercise. They also understand that water and electronics don't mix—instead of hosting their classes inside gyms filled with treadmills and stationary bikes, they stage their regimens outdoors, fortifying their workouts with rejuvenating sunrays and the encouraging shrieks of onlooking robins.
