A full-service gear and instruction shop, Leland Fly Fishing casts fledgling cod catchers into the heart of small-stream adventure with its introductory fly-fishing lessons. Each lesson acquaints amateur anglers with rod, line, fly, and fish during two hours of small-group instruction. Taught on the ranch's private trout lakes, the class covers basic terminology and strategy, as well as a seven-step technique progression to build the perfect cast for hauling in plaque-worthy piscean prizes and sunken mini fridges. Hands-on coaching ensures that each lure launcher leaves with an understanding of fly casting, fly-line construction, and leader tapering, laying a solid base for continued hours of self-practice. Students will be strapped with all the necessary equipment for their first round of line flinging and duck debating, and previously experienced bait pitchers are welcome to bring their own. Classes are held Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

From its serene country roads to its grassy hilltops, the Sonoma Valley’s wine country is a terrain best traversed by bike. The staff at Wine Country Cyclery facilitates these two-wheeled treks by renting, selling, and servicing cycles from Giant and Cannondale. Their rides cater to different types of excursions; the Giant Roam is ideal for leisurely jaunts, while the lightweight Cannondale SuperSix Evo lends itself to fast-paced sprints down tree-lined trails or away from the dryads that guard each vineyard. When riders need help navigating the countryside, seasoned guides hop on bikes and lead them on 12- to 18-mile adventures, stopping at local sites such as Roche Winery & Vineyards along the way.

Lee Simon spent his childhood hanging out in his father's pool hall. Not much has changed since then. Today he can be found at Buffalo Billiards, the Simon family's seventh pool hall. Located in a historic brick building from 1860, Buffalo Billiards is an homage to all things pool?a museum as much as it is a pool hall and pro shop. But first and foremost, it's a place to play?and that's not hard with pool tables, professional-sized shuffleboard, ping-pong, and pinball machines all vying for attention. Though dartboard line the walls, pool's the marquee sport, and players of all skill levels can be found racking, breaking, and hula-hooping with the triangular rack.

Simon's passion for antique tables is evident throughout, with restored and refurbished equipment on display as well as brand new, American-made tables and accessories for sale. Buffalo Billiards hosts leagues and tournaments as well as open play, and Simon offers myriad services such as pool table restoration and refurbishing. Players can also sharpen their skills with lessons from Billy "The Kid" Aguero, Buffalo Billiards' in-house instructor. Letting players extend their afternoons at the pool hall, Buffalo Billiards also features a bar with craft draft beers and hot food.

After leading expeditions in search of underwater treasure, the instructors of Sonoma Coast Divers show their students how to cook and eat the spoils—abalone. They try to conclude each of their abalone diving classes with a group picnic, where everyone can compare their catch in hopes of snagging a record-size shell. Persistent hunters can even compete in the autumn's abalone cook-off, part of a Halloween celebration that includes subaquatic pumpkin carving.

These special events highlight the dive venue's dual emphasis on community and adventure. Whether they are hosting a scuba-certification class, a Stress & Rescue course, or a simple air-fill service, the staff freely shares their passion for oceanic exploration. Their training pathways safely transform patrons from first-time pool divers into instructor-level dive masters. By filling their curriculum with specialty courses—such as night diving, wreck diving, and bubble collecting—they inspire guests to pursue different disciplines. They also plan several trips for all skill levels, guiding tours through local kelp forests and planning weeklong retreats to Caribbean islands.
