  • Mimoco
The stern, masked face of Batman. The bright red bow of Hello Kitty. The green, wizened visage of Yoda. These images have two things in common: they've all become iconic, and they've all been wrapped around a 64-gigabyte stick of flash memory. Boston-based design studio Mimoco (pronounced mee-mo-ko) adds a jolt of pop culture and style to familiar technologies and gadgets, most notably with Mimobot, the company's flagship line of flash drives. Familiar faces from DC Comics, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, and Emily the Strange, along with such notable figures as Einstein and Bruce Lee, grace the glossy exteriors of 2–64-gigabyte memory sticks. Each comes preloaded with desktop wallpaper and other character-specific content—which the company calls Mimory—allowing one to match computers to flash drives, flash drives to T-shirts, and T-shirts to secret double lives as caped crusaders. In addition to the pack of famous and fictional faces, Mimoco partners with independent popartists to create one-of-a-kind consumer electronics and home goods. To engage with its creative fan base, the company hosts design challenges.

  • Wireless Store
Wireless Store is Boston's first T-Mobile limited retailer, offering a sizable selection of wireless phones and accessories. Conversations can be held hands free while driving down the highway or riding on horseback with advanced Bluetooth headsets made by Jabra, Plantronics, Motorola, and BlueAnt. Other wireless accessories, such as chargers, cases, screen protectors, and batteries, keep phones clean, shiny, and fully charged. Though it wears the T-Mobile logo as proudly as a rebellious teenager in a Cramps T-shirt, Wireless Store is a locally owned and operated establishment.

  • I Robot
iRobot's creations lend an invaluable hand in a wide range of situations, from military drills to spring-cleaning sprees. However, the company's most famous robot is the Roomba, a circular vacuuming robot that tidies up floors with remarkable self-sufficiency. Roomba models leave their charging docks and roll across floors to suck up dirt and debris. With their advanced sensors, they are able to scour entire rooms while avoiding obstacles. Roomba's extended family includes the floor-scrubbing Scooba, the mopping Braava, the gutter-cleaning Looj, and the pool-cleaning Mirra. As for iRobot's other inventions, they help out with assorted business and security tasks, such as communication, reconnaissance, and heavy lifting. The company—which was the brainchild of a team of roboticists from MIT—has sold more than 10 million robots since its founding in 1990, and it continues to encourage innovation with both its products and its educational outreach programs.

  • Ctc Communications
A Karma mani-pedi combination gives harried hands 30 minutes of soaking, rubbing, polishing, and painting attention, and the other 60-minute half of the treatment defouls frazzled feet with a bath, a callus checkup, and an exfoliating massage that works its way up the legs, finishing finally with a slather of nourishing butter and a polish. If your hands and feet are already detachable and dishwasher safe, opt instead for the glowing mini-facial and makeup, during which face flesh is steamed, deep-cleansed, and exfoliated. Necks and shoulders are then blessed with a mini-massage, followed by a 30-minute makeover using products customized to each individual’s skin type.

  • Staples
The journey from confusion to organization doesn't have to be a long one. Often enough, it's the length of one tiny strip of metal?the staple that holds a school paper together, or attaches a cover letter to a r?sum?. Staples doesn't carry staples exclusively, of course, but for 28 years, they've aspired to create that same sense of effortless order. Their library of products covers everything from pencils and fire extinguishers to all-in-one machines and facility supplies, all of which aim to make jobs easier. The technology aisles feature more advanced gear: cameras, phones, label makers, tablets, and laptops from popular brands. Their Copy & Print Centers churn out professional documents, business cards, photo gifts, and more. And, though Staples' focus is work, the stores can also furnish break rooms with chairs and coffeemakers.
