The Little Farm has remained abuzz with the delighted giggles and awestruck squeals of 50,000 children each year since opening in 1978. Under the helm of Thomas and Valerie Jornlid, the couple who took ownership of the farm in 1990, The Little Farm has remained committed to fostering family-friendly escapes from the city with their meticulously managed gaggle of animals, all of which are hand-raised to meet the highest USDA health standards. None of the livestock—from pigs and ponies to rabbits and ducks—are hand-fed, which enables children to approach and pet the cute creatures without being chased for food or pestered for information about where they hide the pudding pops. Young guests can immerse themselves in farm life as they help the knowledgeable staff with daily tasks such as feeding the animals or milking the goats, or they can visit the onsite butterfly garden, which is dappled with educational plaques about different fluttering species. They can also enjoy the idyllic pleasure of a pony ride.
Certified holistic-health coach Elizabeth Rocchino has been trained in more than 100 dietary theories. For her, that's still small beans—she believes that nutrition plans should be customized for individuals, with less rigid rules and more flexibility as to what they can eat. Her approach isn't limited to food, either. On her integrative-nutrition plate, factors such as relationships, career, and exercise border balanced portions of fruits, veggies, and proteins. She examines all of these facets when guiding clients toward weight loss and wellness goals. In addition to personal coaching, she also leads corporate programs, cooking demos, and onsite kitchen makeovers, which leave pantries both organized and wholesome.

Within the multihued walls of Kidville’s indoor playland, tykes expand their minds, network with members of their peer group, and deplete their vast energy reserves. Babies, toddlers, and kids 6 or younger delve into classes developed by Kidville’s early-childhood-development gurus. Burgeoning Beethovens can swivel their hips, flex their sing-along muscles, and edit their massive music manuscripts during one of Kidville’s music and dance classes, or enlist in one of the art classes to create a piece that captures their inner rage toward broccoli. Fun and fit gym classes let tots run, roll, and hover through gauntlets of plush blocks and spongy play mats. Clasping hands and scampering legs can also roam freely through Kidville’s sprightly indoor playspace, though all munchkins must be supervised by a parent, guardian, or trustworthy primate.
Founded as a sanctuary for flowers, birds, and their admirers, Pinecrest Gardens has flourished into a family-friendly retreat that entertains visitors with horticultural exhibits and artistic events in a scenic setting. Spanning 4.3 acres of forested wetland, the gardens harbor more than 1,000 rare and exotic plants, including a 100-year-old coco plum tree, orchids, and a banyan tree that spreads across three-fourths of an acre. Waterways full of fish snake through these plants, their inhabitants impatiently pursing their lips at visitors for handfuls of food.
Pinecrest Gardens offers other entertainment opportunities for youngsters, who can splash around in the water playground, spot wildlife at Swan Lake, or play with potbellied pigs at the petting zoo. In addition, the 500-seat outdoor Banyan Bowl offers concertgoers pristine acoustics and cool evening breezes along with complimentary views of the stars.
