Supplying all materials, Art By The Glazz's artist-led painting sessions kindle brush-wielding talents during three-hour classes held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. New artists capture shapes and shadows inspired by a number of pastoral- or wine-themed templates, with step-by-step instruction from pigment professionals. One complimentary glass of wine emboldens the pigment-shy, and those with a thirst for more can visit an onsite cash bar. Aprons protect against stray paint, wine drops, and the tears of fruit trapped in a beautiful but airless eternal present, although Art By The Glazz recommends wearing old clothes. Finished masterpieces chaperone each artist home, ready to be mounted on a wall or hung from the dining-room chandelier.
During Cookies and Milk sessions, kids or teens settle down with a complimentary dessert amid canvases ripe for realizing 2-D tableaux. During each session, one featured painting of a subject, such as the beach, Green Eggs and Ham, or Mickey Mouse, is perched mid-studio to kindle students’ imaginary fires. The company also hosts corporate team-building events, small groups, and birthday parties, giving guests an enjoyable ice-breaking activity.
The Women's Club Fitness Center & Day Spa has brought women together for nearly a quarter century to develop strong bodies and radiant skin. Under the direction of owner Florence Auld, their all-female staff has grown from 15 to 55 professionals who have earned advanced degrees, certifications, and secret handshakes in their fields, including specialists in cardiac rehabilitation and myofascial-release massage. Before earning her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University, nutritionist Lucky Bennett fed her interest in women's health at the University of Washington, where she earned a degree in Women's Studies with a focus on women and medicine.
The staff welcomes new gym members by designing them a personalized workout regimen, then walking them through the correct use of strength and cardio equipment. More than 50 group classes add camaraderie to cardio or stretch-and-toning workouts, and childcare is available for a nominal fee to help mothers make friends their own age. Spa treatments focus on revealing fresh, smooth skin all over the body with topical treatments in tandem with pore-clearing sessions in the dry-rock sauna.
CEO Peter Harvey believes that a quality gym staff must demonstrate more than technical expertise. "Service doesn't only mean showing someone how to do an arm curl," he says. Certified personal trainers develop workouts that zero in on each person?s specific goals, giving clients the skills to pole-vault over impassable plateaus. By steadfastly refusing to hand out fish in favor of putting on master classes in fishing, they help clients become self-sufficient, educating them on fundamentals.
During these one-on-one sessions, and in solo workouts, guests set calories ablaze atop rows of continually updated equipment. Treadmills, recumbent bikes, and strength-training tools line the walls.
Members can also drop in for as many group classes as they can muster. Inside a separate studio, stationary cycles whir in time with galvanizing music, kickboxing strikes arc through the air, and barbells rise with each BodyPump rep. For more meditative practices, Pilates sessions and several types of yoga enhance flexibility and focus.
IMP Fitness, a locally owned and operated establishment that's been providing fitness and wellness services to adults and youth for more than 10 years. The facility stays open 24 hours a day and boasts a fitness center along with indoor turf. Cardio, circuit, and weight-training equipment bustles beneath the glow of eight wide-screen TVs, and certified trainers conduct personal-training sessions and fitness classes. Throughout the year, lacrosse players engage in wall ball and baseballers perfect their pitches and swings. The facility also offers amenities such as free WiFi, a smoothie bar, lockers, and scales that only read a person's moon weight.
My Gym's Parents' Night Out program gives mothers, fathers, guardians, and packs of wolves a break from the 24/8 task of raising children and allows them a well-deserved night out on the town. While the grown-ups hit the golf alleys and karaoke rodeos of the greater Washington DC area, My Gym's staff of trained fitness and childcare experts keep young'uns mentally active and physically occupied. Kids will flex social muscles, exercise emotional intelligence, and bench-press cognitive processes. The three hours of fun include pizza, a movie, games, arts and crafts, story time, and a brief overview of how loop quantum gravity theory doesn't require string theory's multiple dimensions of space-time.
Throughout the majority of her life, Catherine Cochran has actively sought out ways to challenge her physical limits. She spent her childhood as a competitive gymnast until a serious injury prevented her from continuing. From there, she moved on to youth soccer and high-school track before eventually dropping out of athletics altogether and sticking with traditional gym routines instead. These routines failed to provide her with the same drive that she had experienced when training, though. When Catherine discovered the CrossFit program, she recognized it as a training regimen that would channel her competitive spirit in a productive manner and inspire her to constantly, yet safely, challenge her physical limits.
This discovery eventually led Catherine to open CrossFit Chantilly, where she and her team of coaches introduce visitors of all ages and fitness levels to CrossFit workouts. At their core, the workouts use high-intensity sequences of functional movements?such as deadlifting weights, climbing ropes, sprinting, doing pushups, and crushing coal into diamonds?to improve students' strength, stamina, and cardiovascular endurance. The program allows individuals to scale the load and intensity of each exercise to match their fitness levels. Since safety is always a priority, the coaches begin each workout by leading group warm-ups, and they constantly monitor students to make sure everyone is using safe, proper form and technique.
