Introduced to the community under the name Revolve Aerial Dance, Aerial Arts of Utah changed hands when the original owner moved back to her hometown. It passed to Annie Kocherhans and Deborah Eppstein, two longtime local business owners who loved the exercise form so much that they decided they had to keep the business alive. To help them, they assembled a team of teachers with a slew of qualifications that includes a degree from the New England Center for Circus Arts and a master of fine arts in modern dance.
Staffers teach nine classes in the aerial and semi-aerial arts, including courses that focus on the introductory basics, acroyoga, and aerial silks. They also teach the fundamentals to kids aged 7–12 and offer teen-specific classes that cover age-appropriate topics, such as learning how to gracefully catapult into the sunroof of Justin Bieber’s limo. When not instructing aspiring flyers in circus skills, the team performs in cities throughout Utah, demonstrating how to use the trapeze, silks, and the tippy lyra—also known as a flying hoop.
DF Dance Studio houses a battalion of seasoned dance warriors, whose twinkle-toed tutorials helped win the title of Best Social Dance Studio in Utah's Best of State 2010. A Silver punch card five-class pass allows dancers of all levels to try out ballroom in the 5,000-square-foot studio space, complete with wooden floors, disco lights, and a posse of robot backup dancers. Partners are not required for the 55-minute sessions, which occur weekly in the evenings. Alternatively, the one-hour private lesson takes place at two students' preferred time and location, allowing them to shimmy in the comfort of their home or strobe-lit bomb shelter.
At Fitness on 7th, enthusiastic instructors create their own choreography for their high-energy Zumba class—a major reason the studio was named Best Place to Get Your Zumba On in 2012 by City Weekly. The booty-shaking moves create sculpted bodies as participants follow along with rhythmic Latin music. Classes are offered seven days a week, so clients can fit classes into their schedule or get their Zumba on every day.
Utah Salsa's instructors orchestrate explosive Latin dance events in Salt Lake City, ranging from classes to heated competitions to salsa dance nights, which are backed by live beats. Weekly salsa classes introduce newcomers to the fleet-footed art and provide longtimers a venue to showcase their moves. For those with a bit of experience underfoot, the biweekly bachata sessions elucidate the scandalously intimate dance, which is most commonly performed during corporate icebreakers. The enthusiastic instructors throw salsa parties, complete with live bands and catering, on a regular basis, and are the organizers and judges behind some of the area’s top competitions, including the Utah Salsa Championship, the Jack & Jill Latin Cup, and the Utah King and Queen of Bachata contest.
BallroomUtah's experienced instructors calibrate their lesson plans to meet the needs and interests of students of all skill levels.
