Esco Home Services’ technicians ensure that each house they visit remains warm in winter, airy in the summer, and energy efficient all year long. Certified professionals handle HVAC queries and repairs, as well as installation and tune-ups of existing air conditioners. Electricians update lighting and wiring in homes, and plumbers offer area-specific services such as thawing pipes or setting clocks for Mountain Standard Time. Esco technicians can also create more energy-efficient environments through high-tech assessments and remodels.
Reas Shanahan began fencing as a hobby while attending college at Brigham Young University–Idaho. After he graduated, though, he realized that the sport would be a lifelong pursuit rather than a passing interest. At Salt Lake City, he guides students of all ages and experience levels through fencing basics, teaching them how to maneuver a sword with precision or calculate an opponent's next move. With regular practice, students can improve reflexes, tone muscles, or learn to skewer enough shrimp and vegetables for a shish kebab in one jab.

In 1986, the founders of Advanced Window Products designed their company to focus on two things: crafting their own windows and professionally installing them. The idea enabled the company to act as a one-stop contractor for their clients' window needs. The desire to push themselves toward even better service led the company's skilled technicians to create windows with such features as LoE-366 glass, which can keep out up to 25 degrees in the summer heat, insulate up to 75 degrees in the winter, and allow better views of neighbors' gardens than the traditional fist-punched hole in the wall. More than 25 years later, Advanced Window Products' technicians continue to update homeowners' windows and offering free in-home estimates before every job.
Standard Wood collects its firewood from dead standing trees and seasons it for up to five years to ensure clean, uniform burning. Bundles of Wyoming mountain pine ($3) join premeasured bins of hardwoods—such as dense, long-burning oak, gray barkless pinion, and fragrant cedar, which fills ears with crackles, pops, and head-rattling sub-bass as it burns—in quarter-, half-, and full-cord increments ($15–$50). Each bundle arrives wrapped in heavy-gauge plastic to ensure that fluctuating temperatures and invasive pests don't sabotage timber’s burning power. Standard Wood delivers kindling to doorsteps throughout the Salt Lake Valley (a $25 fee, eligible with this Groupon).
Fats Grill fills its space with all the ingredients of a good time, including a menu populated with burgers, pizza, and sandwiches, a fully stocked bar, 12 flat-screen TVs, and seven pool tables, a setup that has won the hangout City Weekly's Best Pool Joint 13 years in a row. Twelve is the number of its burgers, all served on toasted sheepherder rolls with toppings such as bacon, jalapeños, and pastrami. Toasted sourdough builds the foundation for the grill's sandwiches, and pizza crust keeps italian sausage, red onion, and pineapple chunks from gracing the floor with their presence. Fats Grill also houses a newly renovated basement concert venue, a place where local musicians take the stage every Friday and Saturday night to belt out the name game using every audience member's name.
