Squire's Pub attracts patrons with British-style fare and a distinctive pub atmosphere, both of which have helped it win several of The Pilot's Best of Moore County awards, including the All-Around Restaurant and Burger categories. The Squire Pub's owners honor their English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish ancestry with authentic artifacts and antiques throughout the establishment, including a 1719 map of Kent, photos of Trafalgar Square, and William Shakespeare's cherished childhood Nintendo. The stained glass, mirrors, and dark woods of the interior take eyes on a historical journey as patrons sip on cold pints of beer, and hanging dartboards, backgammon, and cribbage games are available from the barkeep to keep hands busy.
The instructors at Inspired Palette help students expand their artistic boundaries and dissolve their expressive barriers during BYOB painting classes. Allowing up to 25 people per class, Inspired Palette’s team imparts instruction that ranges from step-by-step guidance to standing back so that creative impulses can flow unimpeded. To help students relax and enhance the social atmosphere, the studio surrounds participants in walls adorned with green stripes and pink glitter, while in the background, classic, upbeat songs pump through the stereo. The staff also coordinates private parties and Just for Kids classes, which show youngsters how to finger-paint hyperrealism.
Railhouse Brewery founders Mike Ratkowski and Brian Evitts both did stints in the armed forces before they met while working the same job. The two shared an interest in the effervescent qualities of a good beer, and in 2009, they turned that passion into a business. Brian, a homebrewer for 20 years, oversees the production of the company's five main beers—oatmeal stout, brown ale, pale ale, honey wheat, and barley wine—and Mike handles operations, sales, and the number of bottles of beer on the wall. Together, they help bring Railhouse brews to 14 restaurants and bars in the Sandhills.
The Railhouse Brewery also frequently hosts concerts and festivals, and holds cornhole tournaments every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, check out the event page or send a pack of investigative hops to visit the brewery.

Ladies spin around poles, dance on chairs, and roll on the floor during fun and flirty workout classes. Twelve stainless steel professional poles in the main dance room span from the sleek wood floor to the 10-foot ceiling, while a private instruction studio holds two more poles. The female-centric workouts serve to boost self-esteem while burning calories and toning bodies. The studio often hosts parties with a convenient on-site kitchen.
When renowned course architect Ellis Maples first laid eyes on the rolling expanse of land in the Sandhills, he knew he had found the venue for his next course. Whispering Woods Golf Club encompasses both gentle slopes and steeper hills, offering a dynamic canvas atop which Maples designed holes with stark elevation changes. Today, golfers encounter a diverse layout that showcases anything from treacherously undulating bentgrass greens to a small roller coaster for bored caddies to enjoy. Carolina pines line the edges of the fairways and greens throughout the round, stretching out their thin trunks to snag any errant shots. The end product of Ellis’s vision is an 18-hole, 6,324-yard layout described by course architect Dan Maples, Ellis’s son, as “a golf course designed with the average player in mind, but good players won’t find a pushover.”
