Unabashedly muddy, panting, and smiling, Rogue Runner's athletes cross the finish line with the satisfaction that they have been pushed to their limits. A member of the US national rowing team, college athletes, and Hollywood set designers came together to develop a 10K race packed with thrilling obstacles. Though locations vary, each course houses more than 20 obstacles such as mud slides, pipe crawls, and wall climbs. All of them require teamwork, balancing competition with cooperation. Upon completion, winners receive a lifetime supply of bragging rights as well as individual and team prizes.
A parade of phosphorescent lights flows alongside the shores of the Potomac River during The Glo Run Washington DC, a nighttime 5K run in which racers don glow-in-the-dark clothes. As they walk or run along the race’s path, runners eyes gravitate toward light-show-style effects placed throughout the course as their paces mesh with the sounds of upbeat music or the desperate panting of their fellow runners. Water stations will also be available to hydrate runners midrace. After the race, thumping beats at the Finish Line Fest invite participants to form an incandescent dance mob under the night sky.
The DC Running Club serves a community of walkers and runners from DC, Maryland, and Virginia, hosting races open to all ages and abilities. Its events include the Karaoke 5K, held on Friday night and followed by a live-band karaoke concert, and Take a Sick Day & Run a 5K, which benefits the Children's Hospital in DC. Over the next five years, the education-focused nonprofit plans to raise $5,000 in scholarship funds for area youth.
CrossFit training held to the Highest Standard. We want you to be good at all things, to surpass the goals that elude you, to find the 'I must' to replace the 'I cants' in your life. You will find no mirrors here, no iPods, no 'machines' that limit your learning or your potential.
Challenge Nation pioneered the urban-adventure race with a race season that includes visits to 35 cities across the country. Each scavenger hunt is personalized to the hosting city, exploring its many diverse neighborhoods with a series of clues that would test even the most skilled children's-book detective. The teams—comprised of at least two people—vie for a $300 first-place prize. The Amazing Race–style competition rewards quick wits and wise planning over physical fitness, so the best way to prepare is by doing logic puzzles while eating Funyuns and lounging in a La-Z-Boy. The top 25 teams qualify, the top five receiving free entry, to compete in the national championship, which rewards winning teams with a $5,000 cash prize.
When Roald Dahl wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he imagined a much-coveted golden ticket that granted access to myriad wonders and unveiled the inner workings of an entire industry. Adele Fridman, founder of MetaBody, created a real-life version of that ticket with her MetaBody Yoga & Fitness Pass, though it applies to fitness instead of candy. The pass grants access not to a single gym but to classes at a variety of local studios, specializing in everything from yoga to boot camp. With the freedom to move from location to location, students can sample different regimens, instructors, and styles of exercise to cobble together a program that fits their needs and goals. MetaBody's nutritionists supplement class packages by coaching clients in healthy eating, recipe cooking, and speed-reading nutrition-fact labels.
