Registered nurse and massage therapist Samantha Moeller created Wholistic Health, The Wellness Spa with a vision of integrating traditional Western medicine with complementary wellness therapies. Originally located at the New London Family Medical Center, whose staff has worked closely with Moeller, Wholistic Health expanded to its current South Pearl Street location in 2004. Services include massage therapy, skincare, and weight-loss classes, along with permanent cosmetics and body waxing.
Lara Kistenmacher began focusing on skin when her own bout of rosacea caused her to become frustrated with prescriptions and pills. Now located inside Wholistic Health, she turns to the technological advances in the aesthetics industry to help her clients tend to a variety of skin woes, including signs of aging, damage, acne, and third nostrils. Her treatments range from four types of facial peels to those that use light therapy to create radiant, youthful glows.
Amid soothing violet decor befitting the salon’s name, High Violet Salon & Spa’s artistic stylist, expert aesthetician, and therapeutic masseuse use a three-pronged approach to help clients feel beautiful inside and out. Their menu of services is carried out within a newly renovated space accented by wood floors, soft lighting, and a separate spa-treatment room. Hair is colored and conditioned with products such as Moroccanoil, whereas nails are decorated in polishes from OPI. Facials and peels help rejuvenate skin, and Swedish, hot-stone, and deep-tissue techniques release stores of tension and stores acorns hidden under the shoulder blades.
