The Tutoring Center’s instructors follow a proven curriculum method that goes beyond merely helping students with their homework. The Rotational Approach to Learning, developed by Tutoring Center founder Edward S. Thalheimer, PhD, is designed to help students in grades K–12 overcome scholastic issues through one-to-one instruction sessions followed by short independent study sessions where they can apply what they just learned. Not only does this system boost grades in school but it also bolsters students’ self-confidence and ability to work effectively alone or if the rest of the quiz-bowl team got suspended. The Tutoring Center's individualized programs use this teaching system and focus on specific subjects, such as reading, math, writing, and pre-SAT prep or study skills.
Michaela Torcaso, the owner and CEO of Tibia Healing Center, couldn't decide what the world needed more—inner or outer peace—so she decided to give it both. The former begins its incubation in the massage school, where aspiring massage therapists spend 675 hours training for their certification. From there, calm is channeled through graduates' hands and into the minds and muscles of the clients of the Tibia Healing Center, where myriad modalities address everything from injury to stress from trying to balance a checkbook on one's nose.
When she's not planting the seeds of inner peace in her clients, Tibia's owner is spreading it outwards through her nonprofit, Creating a Peaceful World, which volunteers healing bodywork services to individuals including the families of murder victims and charity participants. Torcaso also offers scholarships to aspiring massage therapists who need financial assistance to pursue their education.
Personal Gun Trainer uses local ranges, including Deerfield Pistol Range in the winter and Hope Rod & Gun Club in the spring, summer, and fall.
Students can bring their own gun or borrow one from the instructors.
Personal Gun Trainer's NRA-certified instructors, Auric Gold and Andrea Alongi, design firearm classes based on the latest Wisconsin gun laws. These include beginner-friendly courses on the state's concealed-carry laws, during which the instructors not only teach how to carry a pistol, they also explain the subtle mental skills required to be a responsible firearms owner. Aside from these custom-designed programs, the gun experts teach lessons straight from the NRA curriculum. During NRA pistol courses, they lecture on safety and then teach hands-on skills for various calibers of firearms.
The Wisconsin Badgers have appeared in the Rose Bowl every year since 2010, and Badger Trips of Wisconsin has ensured that more than 1,000 Wisconsin football fans have been there to represent Madison in person. This year, with the Big Ten conference champions set to clash with the Stanford Cardinal on New Year’s Day, Badger Trips fulfills what has become its annual duty by organizing luxurious travel packages to Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena. Along with tickets to The Granddaddy of Them All, the packages include customizable necessities—including airfare and hotel stays—and extra perks such as transportation to Rose Bowl events, which means fans won't need to rent a car or hitch a ride on Bucky Badger’s shoulders to get around.
In the face of informational overload, Iris Reading helps students maintain a laser-like focus so they can cut through their reading material with speed. Online and in-person classes utilize drills to change old habits and drum up reading speed while still maintaining comprehension. And these techniques aren't just useful for literature and cereal-box backs. Classes cover strategies for magazines, newspapers, technical manuals, and websites, stressing the importance of retention and productivity along the way. Upon completion of Iris Reading's courses, students have reported the ability to tear through their reading material up to five times faster.
Wisconsin Aviation, Inc may have started small in 1981, but you'd never guess it now. The flight school today boasts a fleet of about 20 airplanes, ranging from two-seat trainers to jets that offer a luxurious flying experience that rivals being carried on a palanquin by bald eagles. Some aircraft are best for charter flights, others for rentals, and still others?the 110-horsepower Cessna 152, for instance?for flight lessons.
These lessons help aviation students obtain their private pilots license and feature both flight and ground-school instruction with an instructor. For learning about risky situations, there's also an ultra-lifelike flight simulator.
