Dave Gerry started the Princeton Club with three simple tenets in mind: great trainers, exceptional equipment, and easy access. To realize that dream, he assembled a team of American College of Sports Medicine–certified personal trainers to helm the cardio and strength-training centers 24 hours a day.
Whether working out solo, in a group class, or with a trainer to remind them that bench-pressing beehives is safer with a spotter, guests can drop their young ones off at the free childcare center. Splashes fill the natatorium as swimmers paddle across the six-lane lap pool, as the resistance-current pool's adjustable waves enable guests to walk in place. A dip in the whirlpool soothes stress, and the steam room's eucalyptus aromatherapy and sauna's rejuvenating heat send bodies back into the world refreshed. Above the club, tennis and soccer players soak in vistas of Madison as they duke it out on the rooftop garden's turf. The competition continues indoors on basketball, racquetball, and volleyball courts.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in kinesiology exercise science, ACE-certified trainer and Fit Fun Bootcamps founder Dustin Maher designed MamaTone Fitness to help moms vanquish weight gain after childbirth. Inspired by his own mother—who cooked his siblings and him healthful meals but rarely had enough time to exercise—Maher strives to imbue his clients with the motivation to do both. Whether training new moms, moms-to-be, dads who had moms, or curiously fast sons whose moms found them in the middle of a Kansas corn field climbing out of a spaceship, his group classes and boot camps immerse participants in a full-body workout with moral support from neighboring exercisers.
The expert instructors at Phitness Plus lead students of all levels through group classes and personal training. They customize sessions to suit the individual’s goals, using strength training, cardio drills, or yoga moves. They also offer nutrition coaching to help positive lifestyle changes take root in all aspects of the person’s life.
A former German native and professional soccer player, Andreas Davi, takes the helm at German Fit, where he specializes in building strength in students of all ages. Specialty classes help kids aged 10 and older work on their endurance and instill in them an appreciation for cumulative results based on hard work. Adults take part in both personal-training sessions and group classes, which use dynamic exercises to target specific areas of the body. No matter the class, the focus on speed and agility give students the chance to train like professional athletes.
Making new friends doesn't have to involve going to the bar or lurking in the grocery store produce section. It could mean joining Milwaukee Social Club, a local organization that schedules sports leagues and special events. Players have their choice of sports to play year round, from Touch Football in the Fall to Softball, Volleyball, and Kickball in the summer. A second season of new leagues has been added for participants. They can also enjoy events such as Packer Viewing parties and the exclusive "MSC Day-Off".
Since the first fairway drive in 1923, players at Sycamore Golf Club have sent their golf balls cruising down tree-lined chutes blanketed in pristine bentgrass in effort to conquer the course par of 71. The 18-hole course straddles the Kishwaukee River and extends to a total length of 5,817 yards from the back tees and 5,302 yards from the front tees. A meticulous maintenance team keeps the course in excellent condition, meaning golfers will rarely have to hit out of fairway divots or find their golf ball running away with vagabond gangs of crabgrass tumbleweeds.
