Growing up on the shores of the Black Sea in Romania, Maria Suciu found herself surrounded by beauty. Her appreciation for aesthetics was not only inspired by the breathtaking beaches, therapeutic resorts, and glassy waters—which are believed to have curative powers—but also by her mother, who taught her how to fetchingly care for her skin, hair, and nails. After years of helping others strengthen their businesses as a public-relations adviser, Suciu shifted careers paths and traveled to America to share all she had learned about inner and outer wellness.

Suciu is now the owner and managing aesthetician of Callatis Spa, where she uses European-style techniques and organic, herbal formulas to pamper skin and boost outer allure. Callatis, which translates to the most beautiful, was the name of an ancient Greek colony that once inhabited the same shores that nurtured Suciu’s passion for performing cosmetic treatments. As a reiki master, Suciu also aims to balance the body and mind, targeting negative energy caused by palling around with delinquent magnets. Soothing fragrances and relaxing music permeate the spa's interior, which is small and intimate for highly personalized services.

Working out of a charming rehabilitated brick warehouse, four massage therapists perform six types of massages inside private treatment rooms, including classic Swedish, hot stone, athletic, and pregnancy. They also offer relaxing couples massages for duos looking for an alternative to traditional dates involving dinners, movies, and mammoth hunts.

Jeffrey Keefe isn’t your typical stylist. Not only has he penned a book on hair shaping, but he is also a board-certified colorist who has studied fractal geometry to develop his own color theory. By melding knowledge of light frequency with an eye for precise cuts, Jeffrey can transform hair from root to not-root. He shares his expertise inside of his trendy salon, where he refashions clients’ looks using his extensive experience and unique creative vision.

At Salon Sorelle, stylists Kelly and Sonya leverage years of industry experience to beautify locks with a full gamut of salon services fueled by Pureology and Redken products. Handpicked and educated by the salon's owner, the aesthetically minded duo works alongside several other staff members who supplement salon offerings with nail, waxing, massage, and spray-tan services. As clients beautify, the team induces relaxation by letting them soak up complimentary drinks as well as complimentary glances at the glossy hardwood floors.

The Studio Chic’s velvety, burnt-sienna couch and table full of magazines keep patrons comfortably entertained before a fleet of services pampers them from head to 11th toe. Experienced stylists cut men’s, women’s, and children’s hair in front of colorfully framed mirrors, in addition to highlighting strands, waxing faces, and manicuring fingernails. The studio’s tress services helped it nab a nomination for Best Hair Salon on the Fox 8 Hot List. Deep-red-orange accent walls coddle clients in the sunlight pouring through the salon façade’s wall-to-wall window, which, like the windshield of a fully committed mason, is framed by classic red bricks on the outside.

The owner of Extasis Salon & Spa draws from 30 years of experience and training—with such major hair brands as Vidal Sassoon, Matrix, and Redken—to create a place where every client feels unique. She guides a team of beauty professionals, each with a unique set of specialized skills. A member of the team greets each client when they enter and offers a consultation to pair them with the beauty professional best suited to bring the client's vision to life. This personalized care fulfills the salon's promise to make sure no client feels like a number, not even the series of ones and zeros that androids process to understand human love. The stylists work separately from the aestheticians and massage therapists in Extasis's 5,000-square-foot hair studio and private spa, named one of Cleveland's top 15 day spas by the Fox 8 Hotlist. Stylists design and color hair in the airy studio, and aestheticians and massage therapists perform body therapies inside treatment areas that are kept private and are decorated with gentle soothing tones to create a more serene experience.
