Jennifer Clark doesn't believe in sweeping skin problems under the rug—or, rather, under layers of foundation. As the head aesthetician at Skin Lounge, she much prefers to tackle concerns with a customized regimen of DermaQuest products and spa procedures. Her services strive for a symbiotic relationship with the skin, building on its natural processes and beauty so that makeup becomes an afterthought.
Jennifer modifies these treatments based on the client's skin type and the condition they'd like to address. Her facials range from a 40-minute Glow on the Go service to an Ultra Luxe treatment, which adds microdermabrasion and a light chemical peel to the standard cleansing, steam, and extractions. Stronger chemical peels, such as the power pumpkin peel and the TCA glow peel, reduce signs of aging with clinical ingredients rather than by taping a forged birth certificate to the forehead. Even when waxing away unwanted hair, Jennifer maintains her devotion to healthy skin: she never double dips, and her knack for nigh painlessly removing strips has earned her the nickname "Wax Princess."
At any given time, AVA Salon and Spa might be occupied by a mix of political figures, celebrities, and locals. This diverse clientele could easily be ascribed to the studio's location on Capitol Hill, just two blocks from the Library of Congress and the filming location of "I'm Just a Bill." The more likely reason, though, rests in the approach of AVA's stylists, skin therapists, and makeup artists.
With careers that have included work for fashion shows, photo shoots, and the big screen, AVA's beauty gurus bring a wealth of experience to each guest. This expertise extends into services such as hairstyling and coloring, facials, mani-pedis, and waxing. The team also uses only high-end product such as Aquage, Dermalogica, and Spa Ritual, which guests can purchase for at-home care.
The tanning experts at Body Bronze aim to send clients out of their clean, peaceful salon in a flash. Three levels of UV stand-up beds make color-seeking sessions pass by in up to half the time of other tanning solutions, sending clients on their way with a quickly-gained glow. Just a few spritzes of Mystic Tan UV-free bronze bodies with streak-free color that's up to five shades darker than their natural skin tone, while the InfinitySun eco-friendly airbrush treatments create the same reaction in the skin that the sun does, but without the harmful rays and obnoxiously cheerful birdsong floating in on the breeze.
