It took a trip to Sedona, Arizona, to rekindle Kathy Zagorski’s passion for Japanese reiki treatments. Inspired by the natural beauty and energies of the high desert, Kathy decided to rededicate her life to helping clients overcome everything from stress to chronic pains through the use of reiki. Kathy asks her clients to lie on a massage table—still fully clothed or clad in chainmail—and concentrate on their breathing. She then proceeds to place her hands on various points of the body, searching for signs of blocked or restricted energetic flow. By redirecting the body’s natural energies and helping clear these blockages, Kathy restores a sense of balance between the mind, the body, and the spirit. This sense of balance can help alleviate the physical and emotional symptoms of conditions such as anxiety, depression, and grief.
Though it doesn’t have its own zip code, yet, Kidville is a sought-after destination for youngsters. The bustling children’s center pulsates with activities designed to cultivate youngsters’ social and developmental skills, such as classes in music, dance, and cooking. Art classes foster creativity and self-expression, and a play space helps children unleash pent-up energy more effectively than journaling on the living room wall in permanent marker. The fun zone also hosts birthday parties in various themes—including railroad, racecar, fairy princess, and superhero—in which the staff takes care of the details, set-up, and cleanup, allowing parents to join in on the fun.
Spaces Design Studio owner Joy Nan Rodia knows that each room in a person's home serves a distinct purpose. A bedroom should offer end-of-day relaxation, a home office should invigorate the senses, and a kitchen should function as both a communal haven and the best place to hide from the ghosts that inhabit in all televisions. Giving life—and a unifying vision—to these spaces is what she does best. A graduate of New York's Parsons The New School for Design and the founder of the Association of Redesign and Staging Professionals, Joy has been providing interior-design services for 20 years. No matter the job, she carefully considers each residential or commercial client's color preferences and budget as she creates an atmosphere using flooring, lighting, and fabrics.
In addition to her own design work, Joy shares her passion for home styling via classes, workshops, and training programs at her School of Interior Redesign and Home Staging. She also gives back, acting as an interior designer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey.
