There's nothing humble about Humble Pie's pizza crust: Pulled from wood-fired ovens with a light, bubbly texture that crisps at lightly charred edges, it cracks to release a subtle aroma of smoke and yeast. For owner Tom Kaufman, the recipe demanded two months of tinkering and one month of building an underground vault to keep it from prying eyes. Customers tend to think the time was worth it as they bite into delicate slices topped with careful combinations of veggies, meats and cheeses, often locally sourced.

The potato-and-roasted-garlic pizza, for example, happily marries the fragrances of gorgonzola and rosemary. Retaining a botanical touch even on a meat-lover's pie, the Schreiners Sicilian Sausage sprinkles homemade mozzarella with "sprigs of roasted fennel [that] add another aromatic dimension," according to Phoenix New Times.

While the pizza may push some of the other menu items out of the limelight, fresh salads, grilled sandwiches, and traditional and twisted pastas earnestly pine for appetites' affections. The Our Way" Mac & Cheese adds aged white cheddar, italian bacon, and bread crumbs, distinguishing itself from its boxed brethren while forming an equally fun medium for kids' art projects, while wine, beer, and seasonal cocktails pair well with plates and pies alike.

The simple fact that Bridges Preschool has branched out to seven locations in a little more than 10 years speaks to the high caliber of its staff. Every teacher holds, or is close to completing, a degree in child development, early childhood education, or another related field. Plus, they must undergo a rigorous three- or four-part interview before they get the job.

But the preschool and kindergarten's rapid expansion must also be due in part to its unique curriculum, a large chunk of which relies on the Adventure Playgrounds at each of its schools. Inspired by learning playgrounds in Europe, each holds slightly different educational fixtures, such as a bird and butterfly habitat or a garden.

Koko Bee's Playhouse entertains tykes aged 10 and younger with a slew of indoor activities staged safely in sight of parents. Little feet blaze trails across the slide-filled subdivisions of playhouses that sprawl across the facility’s carpeted interior. The inflatable bounce house hosts jumping contests in its pillowy cavern, a train table entrances the minds of aspiring engineers, and a diaper-clad bouncer checks for photo IDs at the toddler-only play area. Toy dolls and tool sets inspire hours of imaginative play, and romps through the spaceship and medieval castle enlighten kids to the playtime customs of their historical counterparts. The staff orchestrates themed days on which kids can paint faces or blow bubbles and curates celebratory gatherings with private and public party packages. Free WiFi fills the café area, where parents sip on coffee as their concerned youngsters search the internet for cooties remedies.

The advantages of learning another language are seemingly endless to the staff at BeiBei Amigos Language School. During camps and classes, instructors equip their students with the tools to communicate by conducting sessions completely in the target tongue, whether they are telling a story, leading a science experiment, or demonstrating how to get out of a go-kart traffic ticket. On top of the lessons, the teachers also espouse the pluses of new-language acquisition for youngsters. The top ten benefits include increased social activity, critical-thinking skills, and mind flexibility. Parents of children in BeiBei’s programs agree—one mother of an enrolled preschooler has recounted the story of her daughter teaching her dolls how to count in Mandarin.
