As a child, Beniley Llorens watched her parents work at their salon in Guadalajara, Mexico, learning secrets of the beauty industry firsthand. Her passion for aesthetics led her to training in places such as Italy, Spain, France, and Japan before she opened a day spa in Guadalajara and eventually relocated to Miami. Now she owns Beniley Wellness Center & Spa, where she and her team use European techniques to perform facials, microdermabrasion, radio-frequency treatments, PEMF (pulse electromagnetic field therapy), and specializing particularly in waxing.
Not only do Llorens and her personally trained staff members perform waxing services—including upward of 70 Brazilian waxes per week, but Llorens has also developed her own line of skincare and cosmetic products.
The color scheme inside Seven Seas Spa & Salon transitions from chartreuse to cool blues, as if narrating, in color, the space's shift from the liveliness of the friendly stylists on the hair-salon floor to the relaxation of the soothing spa services. Using all-natural Aveda products, the hair designers snip away and demonstrate the skills they've learned in the educational workshops they attend regularly to keep abreast of the latest cut, color, and styling trends. Equally savvy spa technicians work back in the spa space, lit by royal-blue bulbs and accented by cascading light fixtures and wavy white walls. Inside private treatment rooms, gentle facials and massages immerse clients in soothing scents and sensations as effectively as a jacuzzi whose water has been replaced with aromatherapy oil.
Dr. DiGeronimo views himself as an artist, and his cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries as his works of art. He cut his teeth training under Dr. Ralph Millard—considered by many plastic surgeons to be the father of modern plastic surgery—and has perfected his craft over the course of more than 30 years and thousands of procedures. He and his staff practice their trade in two pristine operating rooms, performing procedures that span the whole body, from face lifts and Botox injections to breast augmentation and liposuction. He also stays abreast of current aesthetic technological advances, as evidenced by his noninvasive laser treatments that include skin resurfacing and Thermage, which—like crying at the sight of a clown—make clients appear younger.
Stephen Smith, the literal wizard behind the figurative curtain at Planet Beach Contempo Spa, has developed a variety of efficient, self-guided treatments that beautify skin or relieve stress at the touch of a button. Patrons can pay an affordable monthly membership fee at four Miami-area locations to access the automated services, which include sunless spray tans, traditional or high-pressure UV tanning, and full-body hydration treatments that nourish skin and can extend the life of a tan. The Luminous facial device has been designed to fight signs of aging with light therapy, and several types of massage beds melt away stress.
Guests pay an additional fee only for the products that correspond to the services they want. A sauna-suit purchase is required for the infrared sauna, and teeth-whitening treatments require a mouth guard that can be used for games of full-contact horseshoes.
Relaxation commences within seconds of stepping through the doors of New Image New Life Spa. Padded wicker chairs and colorful throw pillows invite guests to unwind as they await facials, bodywork sessions, or waxing among a full menu of services. Inside private treatment rooms, flowers and earth-tone walls summon nature's power to calm and comfort. Among the spa’s specialties, a lineup of soothing massages includes hot-stone therapy, whose gentle pressure and penetrating warmth assuages aches and helps detoxify muscles, and shiatsu, a Japanese technique designed to liberate trapped energy through gentle manipulation of acupressure points.
The spa's owner, Ruth Cula, also specializes in permanent-makeup application and European techniques for brightening skin, which she has honed over more than 28 years working one-on-one with clients. One standout is her oxygen therapy, which stimulates cellular renewal and helps make a complexion glow like a hunk of magma at its first dance. During microdermabrasion treatments, Ruth uses a diamond-point instrument to exfoliate dead skin cells, resulting in the minimization of fine lines. Ruth also continues to add to her suite of modern treatments by continuing to earn certificates and training in emerging skin therapies.
