Set in Rosebud, a 19th-century mining town, Boom Town takes audiences 145 years back in time on a whimsical Old West adventure. World-class circus performers, including many drawn from the ranks of Cirque du Soleil, use mining equipment and other colorful props to execute a variety of stunts and maneuvers worthy of double, triple, and quadruple takes. The acrobatic action takes place within the fittingly historical walls of the venerable Pantages Theater, a former vaudeville venue and movie house. Before or after the show, head down the street to Pacific Grill, where chef/owner Gordon Naccarato oversees a menu rich in nautical delicacies such as weathervane scallops ($30) and turf-based tastes including grilled lamb T-bone chops ($32).
Firstlight photographer Kier Smith captures compelling portraits, weddings, sporting events, landscapes, and more by harnessing his 25 years of experience in both traditional and digital media. For your session, a skilled shutterbug will journey to the location of choice to snap shots that suit your personality and vision. Whether you spend your 60 minutes smiling for a family portrait, tossing your hair for a head shot, or modeling the inside of a locker, skilled hands will optimize each resulting image in Photoshop, banishing blemishes and brightening teeth. The photos will then be pasted to a computer screen and hammered into the monitor to create a secure online gallery, from which you'll be able to choose two images for download, copyright included. Today's Groupon also includes a $25 print credit, enough for one 8x10", for buyers who yearn to physically hold a piece of imprisoned soul.
The handsome, 12,000-square-foot museum is home to four exhibition galleries and a permanent collection that focuses on the wealth of regional talent in the Northwest, in addition to housing Japanese woodblock prints and European paintings. Tacoma's own Dale Chihuly fills a gallery space with his permanent installation of playful and fantastical glasswork, much of it inspired by his love for the sea. Brush up on your goose-whispering skills at the Secret Language of Animals exhibit, a family-friendly flock of approximately 40 paintings, sculptures, and videos depicting rodents, birds, horses, dogs, crazy uncles, and more.
Upon arriving at your choice of location by car or cloud of fire and brimstone, you and up to five space-sharers (pets included) will enjoy 60 minutes of posing, smiling with eyes, and displaying teeth in a manner that won't enrage any nearby chimpanzees. Married shutterbugs Aric and Angie Becker have more than a decade of experience capturing the subtle gestures and quiet moments in weddings, casual portraits, and more, so they know all kinds of ways to bring out the vivacious vamp in even the most camera-shy subjects. Afterward, you'll select your favorite image and receive one 11"x14" and two 5"x7" take-home prints.
