Arthur Murray has been a leading name in franchise dance since 1912, when the entrepreneur began selling mail-order dance lessons. Expanding his reach, he enlisted teachers to spread his signature dance lessons on first-class steamships and skyrocketed to fame in the '30s after introducing the public to such dances as the Lambeth Walk and The Big Apple. By the 1950s, Arthur and his wife, Kathryn, were hosting their own highly popular TV show on ABC, The Arthur Murray Dance Party, which ran for 12 years. Today, Arthur Murray's team prepares students for rug cutting at special events and weekend nightclub jaunts. Clients who arrive to lessons partnerless will be paired up with other classmates as the instructors assess their current skill level and make recommendations on the most appropriate program. Throughout lessons, instructors teach the foundations of two to four dances from a long list of styles that range from Latin to country-western, helping students to learn basic step patterns, timing, and the ability to lead or follow.

A former competitive figure skater, certified instructor Ashleigh Rose started practicing Pilates in 2003 while recuperating from a car accident. After more than 900 hours of training, Rose received her first certification in 2007 from the Physical Mind Institute and her second in 2009 from Body Arts and Science International. Her dedication to Pilates has earned her teaching positions both nationally and internationally, from Mexico to South Carolina to Narnia.

The enthusiasm is palpable in Rose’s studio, Pilates Plus Tacoma, where individuals and groups can learn to use Pilates equipment or eschew it in favor of Pilates mat, Zumba, barre, or TRX classes. The Pilates classes focus on six fundamental principles—centering, concentration, control, precision, breath, flow, and counting—and yield a bevy of benefits, including a reduction in stress and fat.

At 52,000 square feet, and with a capacity of 1,200 people, Pacific Sports and Events Center has more than enough room for your activities. Opened in March 2012, the massive facility houses a pair of indoor soccer fields, where youth- and adult-league games, practices, and training sessions unfold throughout the year. The fields are even versatile enough to be used for other sports, including lacrosse, football, and baseball.

Sports aside, the center also invites guests to utilize its space for other activities, such as birthday parties. Plus, one Friday per month is reserved as Kids' Night Out. On that night, children aged 6?14 can gather at the center with friends while parents use the free time to go to dinner or jump on their bed, even though the house is not a gym.
