Cafes in Davis Islands

Select Local Merchants

The Tampa Bay Times credits owners John Harr and Justin Schuver with the revitalizing the old Slice space, turning it into the causal eatery now known as Islands Pizza. The duo gave the menu a pep talk, pairing popular pies with new offerings of hearty calzones and Italian grinders. While miniature overhead lights cast Hollywood-like spotlight on each of Island's steaming, hand-tossed pizzas, adult diners can cool down piping hot mouth with the bar's cool cocktails and 12 beers on tap, or catch reruns of Cheer's in its original Gaelic on the restaurant's flat-screen TVs.

In an effort to find a healthy alternative to fast food without sacrificing speediness, the creators of Pita Pit began assembling their signature sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks. At each location customers can sample thin pitas that encircle lean, grilled meats and fresh veggies. Sandwich selections span the spectrum from gyro meat and falafel to turkey and prime rib. The staff empowers customers to make healthy choices by displaying nutrition information for its bread and meats, and by offering a selection of healthy sandwiches.

The staff at Soho Tan Spa knows there’s no single correct path to getting a glowing tan. To accommodate clients of all skin types and sensibilities, they offer tanning treatments ranging from the classic UV beds to airbrush treatments by trained technicians or the automated jets of a VersaSpa booth. Their three-pronged approach lets clients choose the level of privacy and method best suited to their skin. The VersaSpa spray tanning booths offer three tanning MyMyst shades to accommodate clients who just want a splash of color or those who want to look like they've spent weeks in a close orbit around the sun. Four brands of beds let clients emphasize facial tanning or faster tan times, while spa facials performed in the tanning salon help refresh newly tanned skin.

For more than 15 years, the culinary team at MTC Downtown Cafe has silenced growling stomaches with housemade American delights, as well as a few plates from overseas. In the morning, the chefs demonstrate their cooking talents by fixing up breakfast entrees in full view of diners. To curb midday cravings, guests can sink their teeth into belly-warming gyros and brawny cheeseburgers from the lunch menu. Throughout the day, pastries made from scratch pop out of the oven, filling the cafe with the sweet aroma of muffins and cookies.

Newcomers to Byblos Cafe may think they’ve stumbled into a sultan’s court: belly dancers wind their way past private enclaves replete with plush footstools and gossamer curtains, and heaping trays of charbroiled meats fill the air with the scents of basil and mint. The sultry atmosphere reflects owners Roger and Ziad Estephan’s mission to share their Lebanese heritage, which they do through every minor and major detail.

Beyond the glowing candles scattered throughout the dining areas, chefs draw upon Estephan family recipes to prepare a menu of traditional Mediterranean dishes. They hand roll grape leaves around spiced rice and herbs, and they marinate meats in fragrant blends of olive oil, lemon, and garlic—the base ingredients in Lebanese Febreze. Additionally, Byblos Cafe houses an international market where diners can stock up on Middle Eastern groceries.
