In creating a recipe for a romantic and pleasurable night out, few ingredients create the same synergy as wine, cheese, and jazz. The founders of Crumb&Cork put their spin on this formula by offering a menu with more than 28 artisanal cheeses and 40 wines from around the globe, which their patrons sip and sample amid an atmosphere permeated by live jazz music on Fridays and Saturdays. In an effort to encourage tastings, the owners sell their wines by the glass and decorate the space with comfortable furnishings so their clientele feel free to linger and chat.
Photography is ubiquitous in contemporary life and culture. The founders of the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts recognized this fact, so they sought to create a setting where visitors from all walks of life could appreciate and experience photography. As one of the few photography museums in the country, FMoPA presents exhibitions, which exclusively use this medium to explore themes that expose some intriguing or exciting aspect of history or modern, everyday life. This focus allows the museum to prominently feature pieces that other art institutions might not necessarily show, such as works of photojournalism or historic photographs.
In addition to scheduling upcoming exhibitions, FMoPA also includes a permanent collection. The collection aims to preserve particularly important images, such as those of various masters of the medium, including Harold Edgerton, Clyde Butcher, Hans Silvester, and Berenice Abbott.
After studying the museum's exhibitions?which can include images culled from national and international sources?guests can step behind the camera themselves during photography workshops for students of all skill levels. Then, budding photographers can display their latest shots at 15 Minutes of Fame, a showcase where up to six presenters exhibit and discuss their original work. They also host a photography group, the Photo League, for those photographers that want to share tips and helpful hints once a month.

Whether wielding a high-powered DSLR or craftily snapping shots with a smartphone, the student-tourists of InFocus Tampa Photo Tours learn how to make the most of their cameras while visiting iconic locales around the city. Groups trek across Tampa on foot, listening to guides share historical facts about sites including the Tampa Theatre, Plant Hall, and the Riverwalk. Along the way, the guide-instructor will touch on such shot-snapping topics as depth of field and the Rules of Thirds, which states that the subject of a picture should be evenly chopped into three pieces for maximum effect. Students can try out their new knowledge as they walk; eye-catching architecture, public artwork, and verdant greenery becomes the subject and backdrop of memorable photos.
When you walk into John Rolfe Tobacco Company, one of the first things you'll notice is the large humidor to your right. The glass structure is stocked with dozens of internationally curated cigars, lined up neatly in handsome display cases bearing brand names such as Davidoff and Flor de las Antillas.
And while cigars get top billing here, it's far from the only card in John Rolfe's deck. Folks stopping in for a smoke might be entertained by anything from their reflections on the flat-screen TVs to live jazz music, all while dining from a menu of Middle Eastern dishes such as spinach and artichoke pies. The leather couches situated around a fireplace mantel invite groups to linger, and those who do can pair their cigar with craft beer or imported wine.
Chillounge Night moves the atmosphere of a nightclub outdoors, freeing warm pulses of bass to tremble under the stars and roll beneath the chatter of guests perched on plush sofas. Toasts are made, adding treble notes to the organic symphony as the sun sinks below the horizon and the atmosphere takes on the festive feeling. Samba dancers parade past tables laden with signature dishes from local restaurants, and fashion shows parade intriguing threads. As fireworks crackle against the darkening sky at some events, live music begins to fuel dancing or make metronomes feel more comfortable.
