Unlike most places, at Climb at Blue Ridge, monkey-like maneuvers indicate superhuman skill. Colorful footholds and handholds speckle the climbing gym’s towering walls and the ceiling of a boxy alcove, with some jutting out at treacherous angles. Equipped with safety gear, climbers surmount the faux cliffs at their leisure, unlike someone trying to escape a vengeful mountain goat. Alternatively, they can join the climbing team to hone their scaling skills in both the gym and the wild.
With a bachelor's degree in piano pedagogy and a master's in elementary education, Jessica Benitez is well equipped to teach students to read music, play music, and even compose their own songs. During performance classes, students gather to tickle the ivories for an audience of supportive peers. Jessica holds classes at her studio and in her home, and can also travel to students’ homes for lessons.
Take a look through David Grooms's photo portfolio, and an array of little stories manifest themselves. A baseball player slides into third as the baseman watches for the incoming throw. A young girl shows off the panoramic gap where her baby teeth once were. Chubby-cheeked babies consider a pile of Easter eggs with confusion. The breadth of David's subjects displays his talent for eyeing up memorable moments, capturing grinning families and embracing newlyweds. This wide knowledge extends to both on-location and in-studio shoots, where he manipulates the available light to produce strikingly composed pictures.
Certified professional photographer Gene Taylor has fine-tuned his artistic vision while working in photojournalism and portrait photography for more than 30 years. During classes at Your Photo Safari, Gene introduces students to the photographic arts and the workings of DSLR cameras. Sessions begin in classroom settings, allowing students to get acquainted with camera basics as well as advanced features such as setting white balance and reducing blur. After learning how to navigate the multiple settings and buttons on their digital cameras, students traipse to area gardens to explore the natural world through their lenses. The hands-on experience allows students to take home artfully composed shots of plants bathed in natural light or trees planking over riverbanks in a bid for Internet fame.
