Scottsdale Gun Club's gunsmiths know how to keep things safe and clean. They're experienced in working with all sorts of models?from handguns to class-3 firearms?and they clean, maintain, and repair customers' guns so they operate smoothly once out on the range. Certified firearms instructors ensure proper shooting during more than 20 classes, covering topics such as the use of pistols, shotguns, and carbines.
A person steps onto the range and raises a pistol, aligning the sight not on a paper target, but on miniature pumpkins. To keep things fresh, the staff at Ted's Shooting Range likes giving both members and the general public a bit of novelty every now and then by furnishing range targets that range from bowling pins to balloons. Ted's NRA-certified instructors also train students during classes, such as their Basic Pistol and Home Defense courses.
The RV park at Casa Grande Trap & Skeet encourages its visitors to linger for days on end. Full hookups and seasonal appearances from an onsite caterer bring comforts to the desert, as sunsets paint the sky above the Casa Grande Mountains every evening. But it's during the daytime hours that Casa Grande truly shines. On the grounds, areas for Five-stand and Skeet shooting challenge visitors, as do 13 fields of Traps. The owners?comprised of Tiger and Don Volz?welcome visitors of all experience levels when it comes to shooting, with lessons for beginners and frequent competitions for the more advanced.

Whether it's how to handle a gun or store it safely, everything taught in one of RealWorld Firearms Training's classes is grounded in decades of experience. Founder Robert Martin has worked as a civilian and military law-enforcement officer, and he has trained with guns for more than 30 years. Likewise his fellow instructor, Andy Gates, spent six in years as a sergeant in the US Marine Corps. Both hold NRA instructor certifications, which come in handy during courses such as basic handgun training or tactical carbine classes.
Much of Arizona remains unchanged from the days when cowboys and their dinosaur steeds ruled the desert plains. Millions of acres of lush trees still blanket the Coconino National Forest, growing up over mountains in defiance of the desert's red rocks. In Mayer, miles of horseback trails snake past rivers and rock outcroppings, passing by historic windmills and cattle ranches that still operate to this day.
The horseback guides at Pot A Gold Adventures call each of these majestic landscapes home. Each day, they lead groups from three different stables: Hitchin' Post Stables, Pot A Gold Stables, and Mountain Ranch Stables. From here, they depart on two-hour adventures through deserts and forests. On some of these trips, they might stop to build a fire and cook dinners of steak, potatoes, and beans.
Lemonade and iced tea replace cowboy food during the spring and summer. The wagons are drawn on rubber wheels to make the ride as smooth as possible so guests can enjoy the views as well as the horses, as they are nearly as beautiful as the surrounding landscape. Pot A Gold Adventures' trainers raise most of the purebred Quarter and Paint horses almost from birth.
