Owner Mark Hill and his staff customize each personal-training session to help clients meet their fitness goals. Hill and company have also crafted precision programs for those who are athletes, expecting a baby, or with cardiac-health issues.
Host Sharon Cooper-Lashley has trained with such celebrity stylists as Patric Bradley and Taliah Waajid, and in the first Annual Divas of Colour Hair & Beauty Show she brings together some of Arizona's rising stars in creative hair and makeup. They may all share a passion for transforming people into walking works of art, but it's not all buddy-buddy?it's a competition. The artists vie for top honors in categories such as Natural Hair, which bans chemical straighteners; Fantasy Hair, which is open to more imaginative possibilities; the Barber Battle, a lightning-round for elaborate fades and designs; and the Make-Up contest, which transforms models into high-concept fantasy beings.
For just one day, Danielle Plaza will bloom with music, color, and tantalizing smells for the inaugural Pub n Grub Block Party. The festival celebrates local craft beer and street foods while raising funds to benefit the Arc of Tempe, which serves citizens with cognitive and physical disabilities. However, food and drink aren't the only attractions: throughout the day, an outdoor stage showcases live acts and tethered hot-air balloon rides let visitors soar in the sky after sundown. A family activity area even features attractions such as a 200-foot zip line. Because it's conveniently located in a parking lot, the festival will also include an exhibition of wax-shined Corvettes.
At Wheel Fun Rentals, visitors can traverse surrounding areas in fun paddle- and pedal-propelled vessels while soaking in oft-overlooked scenery, which would not be possible while buckled to a car seat or an Acme rocket. Established in 1999, Wheel Fun Rentals provides locals and tourists with an engaging way to sightsee while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Customers can rent a wide range of vehicles, such as a paddleboat ($15 per hour), surrey ($20–$30 per hour), scooter ($5 per hour), or kayak ($15 per hour) to traverse the verdant nature trails of Encanto Park or the glittering lake and bustling recreational center of Kiwanis Park.
Emerge Community Center was created to provide a place for people to "emerge" into the versions of themselves they always wanted. At this community center, yoga studio, and acupuncture clinic, clients come to interact in a nurturing environment and reconnect their bodies and minds on a journey towards wellness. Owner and licensed acupuncturist Dana Bairen and her staff of qualified instructors help provide acupuncture, Oriental Medicine, yoga, meditation, and massage therapy. During the Zen Meditation session, students are taught to clear and quiet minds, while the Hatha yoga class uses asanas to open energy channels and the cage doors of spirit animals within the body. With hardwood floors and big windows that let in sunlight, Emerge Community Center provides a place for peaceful interaction and self-healing.
At Hegel Yoga, instructors delve deep into yogic studies with classes that teach postures, breathing, and meditation. The studio offers a unique, eight-week yoga anatomy class that teaches how the muscles, breath, and respiratory systems interact with each other during each movement and pose throughout a yoga practice. Instructors also nurture each student?s exploration of Ashtanga technique, with beginning level classes that focus on foundational postures, movements, and mindful breathing.
As students progress they build strength and endurance through standing postures, while slower floor postures help release tension in the hips and spine. Hegel also offers open practice sessions, where students may practice alongside an instructor. These sessions allow students to work in a meditative space at their own pace with movement and breathing guiding the class.
