For more than 10 years, Kyle Bowen has sharpened his aerobatic maneuvers by springing from trampolines and learning at the feet of world trampoline champion, Tatiana Kovaleva. He ultimately finished seventh in the 2008 team trials for the Summer Games, and decided it was time to challenge himself in a whole new way. He teamed up with Tatiana to open Elite Trampoline Academy, and today they help others become elite-level trampoliners through intensive classes for ages 3 and older, including Steven Gluckstein, a member of the 2012 Summer Games. During 45- to 60-minute classes, they teach their students aerial skills such as tumbling and how to high-five seagulls. Additionally, the coaches incorporate strength, conditioning, and flexibility exercises to build the fitness required to pull off trampoline feats. They also open their space in a noncompetitive capacity for birthdays filled with supervised jump time and pizza.
Along one wall of A Time To Kiln's studio, row upon row of blank ceramic bisques await aspiring artists. Forms range in size, shape, and functionality—from dinner plates to figurines—but all are open to the interpretation of the painter. After selecting a piece, visitors head to the lineup of colorful glazes and paints to pick a color scheme or overenthusiastically smell each one before taking a seat at one of the tables and setting out to create a masterpiece. In addition to paint-your-own pottery, the studio also offers glass fusing, as well as mosaic projects to create two-dimensional art.

The verdant displays of flowers, plants, and seasonal, locally grown produce at Gold Coast Landscape & Garden Center form a veritable feast for the senses. Trees, perennials, and annuals from growers such as Overdevest Nurseries, Monrovia, and Endless Summer fill the center’s many planters and pots, sharing space with in-season tomatoes and strawberries. The gardening staff helps visitors to create their own vegetable gardens with these tasty fruits and can even lend their expertise to designing backyard ponds. Inside, a farm market further piques appetites with its selection of steaks, salad dressings, and gourmet cheeses freshly picked from the tree.
Drawing upon experience accumulated over the course of six decades in business, the insured and licensed technicians at Environmental Air Systems visit homes to improve energy efficiency and safety. Video-camera systems allow the workers to peer inside evaporators and other difficult-to-reach parts or show homeowners the deposits of dust that are attracting lonesome cowboys to nest in their ducts. Inspections of home systems involve 25 or more steps, allowing the workers to make specific recommendations and ferret out dangers, including carbon-monoxide leaks. The crews, who are on call at all hours, also install systems backed by a guarantee that each room will be within 3 degrees of any other section of the house, except when sullen teenage glaciers are visiting.
