For a decade, Anne and Matthew Falkowski have been transforming rookie stretchers into professional yogis. The lessons at Samadhi Yoga Studio usher guests, regardless of age, flexibility, or experience, into a community whose leaders emphasize the growth of bodily awareness. The 40 yoga classes per week encompass Beginners, Moderate, and Vigorous sessions, which gradually widen students' understanding of postures and breath work. Rather than spending hundreds of hours searching for inner peace in the national phone book, those yearning for further enlightenment can attend a 200- or 500-hour teacher-training program. The nationally certified curriculum has passed more than 150 graduates, steadily expanding the reach of its art to Manchester and beyond. Though yoga is the main focus, Samadhi Yoga Studio rounds out its class roster with other dynamic offerings. Festive Zumba workouts showcase heart-healthy twirls, and specialized workshops combine yoga with other disciplines, such as dance and running.
Each instructor at Evolution Pilates is certified through Stott Pilates, which requires a minimum of 200 hours of training. Backed by this certification, the instructors lead private and group classes for all types of exercisers, from beginners to experienced athletes. The classes incorporate equipment such as reformers, which help exercisers build lean muscles.
Bikram Yoga Glastonbury's band of yoga instructors guides students of all abilities through the 26-posture practice. Students begin the 90-minute workout with a deep-breathing exercise before moving into a sequence of standing and seated postures designed to improve strength, flexibility, and balance. Balmy temperatures help students sink into deep stretches, eliminate harmful toxins from the body, and keep confrontational snowmen at bay. Though challenging, students of all experience and fitness levels can tailor the poses to meet their needs, with the idea that through dedicated practice, students may see a decrease in weight, improved sleep, and greater flexibility.
Sacred Rivers Yoga is more than just a place to practice yoga. It’s also a massage studio where therapists soothe tension with techniques ranging from deep-tissue to thai massage, and a certified 200- and 500-hour Yoga Alliance school and an International Association of Yoga Therapy member school.
The main goal at Sacred Rivers is to help visitors achieve a balance between their bodies and minds. Classes accommodate all skill levels, with gentle and introductory yoga sessions for beginners and four courses, including power yoga, that can challenge even the most advanced yogis. Other specialized classes include Fabulous Over 50! and Yin yoga, which focuses on connective tissue.
The dedicated staff at Marlborough Pilates hosts a variety of classes to tone muscles and hone balance through controlled isometric movements. Before beginning workouts, students come into the studio for a fitness-level assessment by a trained instructor who can determine appropriate class placement. Once they’re ready for the studio’s schedule of classes, pupils gather in small groups to ensure the instructors can offer close instruction and to keep numbers low enough to count on fingers and toes. Pilates exercises, which focus on postures and breathing techniques, require concentration to improve spinal stability and tone muscles in bodies and brains. Floor-bound pupils lengthen limbs during Mat classes, while machines help muscles build resistance during sessions on the Pilates Tower. Meanwhile, AeroPilates classes combine low impact aerobic workouts with challenging postures that make limbs light enough to hover in air, while Pilates Fundamental classes teach basic forms and the proper completion of movements.
Centered Body Pilates offers a variety of core-controlling courses, which help students gain control over their flexibility, strength, and discipline. With plentiful windows and honey-toned hardwood floors, the studio facilitates deep focus on the Pilates craft. The method was created to develop and integrate core strength into the rest of the body, like a baker giving a gingerbread man a chiseled six-pack. Pilates is practiced either on floor mats or with a specialized Pilates Reformer. Students sit, kneel, stand, or lie on the gliding Reformer platform and use adjustable spring resistance to determine the power and the bounciness of their workout. The versatile Reformer can be used to strengthen the core, thighs, calves, upper arms, and shoulders. Each student gets to work on their own Reformer, eliminating the need for socially awkward tandem Pilates workouts. This exercise maintains a challenging intensity while staying easy on joints, making it suitable for all ages and body types.
