Inside Cross Fit Commanders’ garage-like gym, trainers work like mechanics to help reshape bodies with the CrossFit method. They lead small groups through intense, ever-changing daily workouts that include gymnastic movements on the rings, twirling heavy ropes, and air squats. When weather cooperates, they take class outside to scale wooden walls, swing through the monkey bars, and run through obstacles courses made of tires. All exercises incorporate everyday movements such as lifting and pulling, meaning the system prepares everyone for all daily, sports, and work activities.
At Spring Fitness Centers, friendly staffers greet members by name as knowledgeable trainers build personalized fitness programs. Trainers graciously dole out one free training session per month to each client, equipping athletes with the techniques and skills to successfully operate free weights and cardio machines without professional supervision. Memberships include complimentary childcare, unlimited tanning, and unlimited aerobics at each location. Like a spy's accent, classes vary by location, but may include cycling, Pilates, kickboxing, and Zumba.
Trainer and fitness guru Justin Bradshaw modeled SGT. H20's CombatSwim after the rigorous training he received as an Army diver. His challenging exercises encourage full-body fitness, using workouts that build stamina, boost metabolism, improve swimming skills, and promote weight loss. Incorporating the best of land-based cross-training systems, CombatSwim includes plenty of high-intensity interval training and pulse-hiking calisthenics. In the pool, water adds extra resistance that amplifies the effects of the exercises, which include swimming sprints, endurance swimming, and treading water with weights. Designed to sharpen the mind as well as the body, CombatSwim leaves exercisers with the same confidence and conditioning as some of the world's elite military warriors.
Gold's Gym began more than 45 years ago and today features an impressive array of next-generation fitness gadgets, a results-oriented focus, clean facilities, and certified personal trainers. Hop on a cardio machine, possibly including a built-in TV, pump up in a controlled manner on strength-training machines, tighten up in the abdominal and functional stretching area, or stick with lifting huge, heavy pieces of metal and commercial chest freezers. Facilities and classes vary by location; weekly classes include Zumba, BodyCombat, yoga, Pilates, group cycling, and lion punching.

What inspired you to start or run this business?
After spending a few years in corporate America and feeling like just a number, I always wanted to have my own business and make a difference in people's lives. I've always been passionate about fitness, food, and nutrition and I want to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others.
What is the best reaction you?ve ever gotten from a customer?
I think the best reaction I've heard was "You've changed my life." I also love hearing "I've dropped 2 dress sizes" or "I can now fit into my goal jeans" after only a few weeks.
What?s your favorite part about your job?
I love helping [clients] achieve challenging life goals and inspiring people to both feel their best and be their best in life.
Coach Rex Causey knows that most effective workouts begin with stretching the most important of all muscles: the mind. A lifelong learner, he constantly studies journals and articles to give him a better idea of how to match each of his clients with the proper fitness program. Part of this matching process is figuring out what, exactly, these clients want. Shortly after introducing himself, Rex will likely ask you a series of questions—do you want to lose weight? Reduce your stress? Improve your flexibility?
The answers to these questions determine a lot. If you're a baseball or soccer player, for example, Rex may recommend a sports-specific training program designed with your on-field position in mind. If your end goal is to touch your toes or lick the bottom of your foot, he'll likely recommend a self-myofascial-release class that teaches easy ways to improve flexibility and reduce muscle tension. To ensure that his clients have access to the best amenities around, Rex has joined the family of fitness professionals at Core Fitness, an expansive workout facility in The Woodlands.
