Zumba, ballroom dance, and Les Mills group exercise classes shake up adult workout routines, as complimentary childcare frees up parents to pursue fitness goals. Meanwhile, adult sport leagues such as basketball and racquetball result in friendly competition and hyper-literate team names inspired by obscure philosophers.
By teaching mat- and machine-based Pilates workouts, Pilates on Pinecroft's three certified instructors help students improve their physical fitness, recover from injuries, and augment their athleticism. The team welcomes new students to schedule a private session to become better acquainted with the system of ropes and pulleys that comprise Pilates Reformer machines, and in the process master core-bolstering mat moves. The staff also encourages clients who prefer to dive right into one of the studio's dynamic group classes. Classes incorporate props such as foam rollers, bands, exercise balls, and goofy abstract items attached to improve comedians, all of which conspire to promote the development of lean muscle and increase flexibility.
Danielle Setchfield, a certified instructor and owner of Viva Body, LLC, wants to help people fall back in love with their bodies through exercise. After undertaking a three-week foray into asceticism, Body & Brain Holistic Yoga's founder Ilchi Lee reached an epiphany about the interconnectedness of the body, the mind, and the universe at large. In an effort to share his newfound philosophies with others, Lee formulated a holistic yoga technique adapted from a 9,000-year-old text and sun do, an ancient Korean practice that mixes yoga, tai chi, and meditation techniques. Nowadays, senior and basic instructors teach Lee's curriculum at facilities across the county, where students can tap ki energy during various classes and workshops, including Dahn yoga classes, healing chakra workshops, and the five-step Brain Education Systems Training (BEST). BEST training teaches natural healing techniques that rely on the brain and involve no copays to the medulla oblongata. Each program at Brain & Body Holistic Yoga is designed to imbue participants with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits.
The team at Pure Balance takes a holistic approach to wellness, bettering bodies with chiropractic, yoga, and Pilates treatments. Laurie, a certified yoga instructor, twists students into exhilarating and liberating shapes during Hatha and Yin yoga classes. Patti handles Pure Balance's deep-tissue, Swedish, and Thai yoga massages, expelling aches and pains from uncomfortable muscles. Dr. Amy Nong, who graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and Texas Chiropractic College, customizes treatment plans to each client, mixing chiropractic, nutrition, rehabilitation, and wellness practices with good old-fashioned advice to stop sleeping underneath concrete slabs. Rounded out by Kathy Nong, a Texas A&M grad with a bachelor of science in food science, Pure Balance's staff also offers spinal decompression and weight-loss counseling.
With more than 15 years of experience, Premier Pilates’s head instructor, Rosa McGill, is very familiar with the benefits of Pilates: better range of motion, increased flexibility, better balance and posture, and a stronger core. To help people achieve those benefits, she and her team lead one-on-one and small-group classes with mats and equipment such as Reformers and spine correctors. The staff strive to make Premier Pilates a place for holistic health, offering access to an infrared massage bed, which uses deep-penetrating heat to relax muscles or help snowmen slim down as wheels made of jade roll up and down the body.
