A person's previous gym experience and current fitness level don't matter at CrossFit Topeka. Instead, the co-owners?Rob and Desi Jensen?host high-intensity workouts intended to be challenging, yet accessible for anyone. These CrossFit workouts are structured around sequences of exercises based on functional movements, such as swinging kettlebells, sprinting, deadlifting weights, and making origami cranes out of sheets of aluminum siding. By constantly changing the structure of the daily workouts, the trainers ensure that CrossFit never becomes a matter of routine and mindless repetition. Every class provides attendees with the opportunity to safely challenge themselves by slightly increasing the load of an exercise while maintaining the same intensity. With the support of the trainers and the entire rest of the class, students can find the motivation to continue pushing their limits without sacrificing proper form and risking injury, simultaneously building strength, flexibility, balance, agility, and cardiovascular endurance over time.

Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing with the Stars multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Expect to burn off up to 500 calories with each go-round.
