If you live in Westechester and you want to train martial arts to get in shape and feel great about yourself, Premier Martial Arts is your only choice!
Professional belly dancer Azadeah teaches eager pupils with no dance experience to shimmy, shake, and mesmerize with traditional Middle Eastern and American-influenced belly-dancing moves. The comfortably challenging classes engage students through group choreography based on technical and creative skill, and encourage them to express their own personalities in each energetic performance.
At Overton's Archery Center, archers learn skills ranging from proper bow-handling to long-distance shooting. Expert archers lead instructional classes and tailor lessons to suit a variety of skill levels; budding archers then practice what they've learned on the center's indoor range instead of jumping right into shooting apples balanced on mannequin heads. In the pro shop, meanwhile, visitors shop equipment from makers such as PSE Archery, Bowtech and Bear, and technicians perform maintenance and repairs.
Under the direction of grand master Yang, a multi-martial-art black belt, the students at Yang Masters United Taekwondo Center gain physical and mental empowerment in challenging tae kwon do classes. Classes focus on powerful punching and kicking movements to improve coordination and flexibility. The tae kwon do self-defense style employs a systemized training curriculum that distinguishes advancement through symbolic progression such as belts and increasingly solemn head nods.
Students who commit to the principles of tae kwon do notice mental and personal benefits in addition to the physical ones. Elevated self-discipline and concentration equips pupils with unmatched staring-contest capabilities, and improved confidence galvanizes leadership inside and outside the board- or classroom. Each session of tae kwon do encourages groups of students to train as a whole rather than as separate individuals as instructors stress unity during drills and heated games of Red Rover.
Links-style golf on the mainland can be hard to find, but Falcon Lakes Golf Club's 18-hole course emulates the characteristics of the game's traditional Scottish tracks. From the tips, the 7,098-yard circuit proves quite formidable, with a quartet of long par-fives?topping out at 566 yards?and a few titanic par-fours, including the 481-yard 12th hole, the course's most difficult hole. Intimidating hole length isn't the course's only links characteristic. At the end of each zoysia grass fairway, golfers must contend with slick, bent-grass greens, most of which exceed 6,000 square feet in size to make two-putts very difficult but helicopter golf-cart landings a breeze. Ankle-high native grass sways in the breeze on certain holes, and hazardous mounds deny a level stance to those who stray from the fairways or greens. Before rounds, golfers can get a feel for the putting surfaces at a multi-tiered practice green, practice their swings at a zoysia grass driving range, or dig for ancient scorecards in the bunkers that surround the chipping green.
