The staff at SXS Fitness knows how important strength and conditioning are for an athlete to succeed. That's what handfuls of fitness certifications, including ones from CrossFit, Can-Fit Pro, and NCCP, will teach you. SXS Fitness is a private studio that focuses on training the complete athlete, which involves everything from boot camp classes to the TRX Classes. Depending on clients' needs, they can sign up to lose a few pounds or boost fundamental athletic attributes such as strength, speed, agility, balance, and shapeshifting.
"We are not a gym with personal trainers," explains the staff at Conker Fitness, "we are a personal development facility with a team of attentive, experienced coaches." These coaches?Jeff, Matt, Alicia, Justin, Becky, Lou, and Trista?each have their own specialties and their own way of connecting with clients. They're also the folks who guide the boot camp and small-group training sessions.
Because their focus is "on performance and development, not juice bars and tanning beds," the Conker Fitness team has outfitted their facility with tons of challenging gear: punching bags, sledgehammers, sleds, and monkey bars occupy the two-level gymnasium, along with traditional equipment such as weight machines. As they jog on the lofted level, treadmill runners can gaze over the balcony and reenact the cardio-fitness scenes of Romeo and Juliet. The focus here is on personal progress and results, but there is clearly a lot of thought behind the facility's look and feel. It's well-lit and high-ceilinged, and a decorative red-and-white graffiti motif gives the place a tough, modern feel.

What began as eight racquetball courts in 1978 has grown into a family fitness center housing exercise machines, group classes, indoor pools, volleyball, basketball, and a smoothie bar. Penfield Fitness and Racquet Club members make use of an endless supply of free weights and Technogym or Life Fitness cardio equipment equipped with TVs for personal viewing.
A team of trainers leads 99 group fitness classes each week, such as Zumba dance aerobics, Pilates, and yoga as well as nationwide programs including Les Mills and SilverSneakers. In keeping with their heritage, trainers host racquetball lessons, leagues, and tournaments for adults and children. Members can take advantage of free childcare services and cool off after workouts at the club’s onsite smoothie bar instead of attempting to somersault into a passing ice-cream truck.
