Seventh-degree black belt Barry Black has been practicing martial arts for nearly four decades. With Barry as its cornerstone, Master Black's Martial Arts launches students into their own martial-arts journey with classes for kids and adults. Whereas children's classes focus solely on the martial arts, adult classes also encompass fitness boot camp and kickboxing.
As they enter the training circle at Curves, female guests come face-to-face with the smiles of other women. And just as points on a circle share a common distance from the circle's center, workout participants share the experiences of those nearby, trading stations throughout the 30-minute training session. One minute is spent on a piece of strength-training equipment built for feminine frames and designed to work two opposing muscle groups with a single movement. Exercisers then move on to a recovery station, where they run, jog, or dance to maintain heart rates and keep platforms in place during momentary losses of gravity.
When a man nicknamed "The Grin Reaper" is in charge of your gym, you know you're in for a tough workout. That would be Nicholas Mezzacappa, the owner of CrossFit Freehold. Each weekday?starting as early as 6 a.m.?he and his staff lead exercisers through CrossFit's workout of the day, a continually changing series of intense exercises designed to maximize fat burning and muscle building. If you're wondering what a given workout might include, think jumping on a plyometrics box, pushing a barbell over your head, or building upper body strength on the Olympic rings. The workouts can be easily modified to fit any fitness level, and all newcomers will be gradually introduced to the program during CrossFit Fundamentals classes and a casual meet-and-greet with each piece of equipment.
When leading workouts, Endorphin CrossFit's trainers focus on training students to improve their bodies through form and intensity. They rely of CrossFit fundamentals and strength-training exercises to help get clients in shape. Additionally, they also give every member nutritional consultation, mobility training, and help with injury recovery and prevention.
Intoxx Fitness's trainers push groups of students to their limits in search of better fitness and stronger bodies during classes such as kickboxing, spinning, and Zumba. Though the gyms' schedules vary by location, each hosts classes for all skill levels seven days a week, both in the morning and evening. The gym floor includes a large free-weight and machine lifting area for ample opportunity to supplement in-class workouts with more targeted exercises, for which personal trainers can assist with tips, tricks, and advice on chatting up that single weight machine.
