The Foodbank has a straightforward mission: to relieve hunger in the Miami Valley. To achieve this goal, the organization distributes food and other supplies to its network of 85 partner nonprofits, including food pantries, community kitchens, and shelters. The Foodbank also works with local schools through its Good-to-Go Backpack program, giving backpacks full of kid-friendly yet nutritious food to over 1,400 children at risk of experiencing hunger over the weekend, when they don't have access to free or reduced lunch at school. And at mobile farmers' markets, The Foodbank delivers fresh produce, meat, baked goods, and packaged food to communities without a local food pantry. Last year, The Foodbank distributed 7.2 million pounds of food?2.2 million pounds of which was fresh produce?to people in need.
Born in Eastern Kentucky, Kevin Messer's lifelong pursuit of beautiful visual images owes a lot to his Appalachian roots. He likes to capture slices of Americana in his mixed media and digital paintings, whether it’s the sun shining over a country store or the red rock peak of Zion Canyon's Watchman. He sells small format digital reproductions of his work, some as small as note cards, as well as full-sized mixed media canvases, a fitting centerpiece to a collection of home décor.
The human mouth hides 32 teeth, any one of which could be a sweet tooth. Over the Top Productions caters dessert tables for events of all sizes, brining custom-crafted candies and chocolates to sate an army of sugar-craving teeth. The caterers consult with the event's organizers to determine not only size and number of mouths to be fed, but also the color palette of the venue. They craft their custom candies – and wine and champagne pairings – to match the atmosphere. In February 2013, the caterers take on the role of full event planners, throwing a Group Wedding Event to hitch couples in style.
Photographer Dan Cleary is much more than a photographer?he's an artist. In fact, Dan has a Masters of Fine Arts degree to prove it. Perhaps that's why, as the photographer at Cleary Creative Portraits, he's been in business for more than two decades. Or perhaps it's the promise he makes to his clients that if they aren't over the moon about their photos, he'll return their payment in full. But with his eye for capturing family portraits, newborn babies, wedding days, and other special occasions, those instances are rarities.
