  • Adrift Tahoe
Adrift Tahoe transforms Lake Tahoe into one giant playground, all the way from its sandy shores out into its glistening waters. In the morning?with the sun rising over the Sierra Nevada mountains?standup-paddleboard instructors lead groups out on tours of the lake, floating atop serene waters and along tree-lined banks. Similar journeys happen midday, at sunset, and at night, when the stars guide paddlers across the water and the moon looks on enviously, wishing it had water of its own. Other members of Adrift Tahoe's team lead paddleboard fitness, while more still stay on the shore to teach yoga. Beyond these guided activities, Adrift Tahoe sells and rents aquatic gear, including paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes.

  • Donner Ski Ranch
Perched high atop Donner Summit along historic Route 40, Donner Ski Ranch welcomes skiers of all stripes. More than 50 runs wind across the resort's 505 total acres, with beginner and intermediate terrain taking up the majority of that space. Still, there are plenty of challenges for advanced skiers, including some runs that stretch to 1.5 miles in length. To reach the peaks, visitors can take six chairlifts and two moving carpets that snake up the mountainside. Those lifts are seldom still: the ranch receives an average of 396 inches of snow, and it doesn't close down until that snow either melts or beams back up into the sky.

  • Sierra Tap House
Underneath Sierra Tap House's metal-banded glass lamps, between its yellow walls and exposed brick, patrons gather around polished wood tables. In warm weather, they also spill outside onto a patio overlooking the Truckee River, which grants views of the river walk. The small pub first opened its doors in the midst of the 2006 Reno River Festival. Since then, its staff has poured imported and American beers, as well as rotating draft beers from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company?such as Torpedo Extra IPA, Knightro stout, and Celebration ale. Servers pair these pints with simple bar food such as pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, and chicken wings.
