There's virtually no request that the talented hairstylists and barbers at Majesta Beauty Salon and Spa can't meet. On any given day, they might be designing elegant up-dos for an entire wedding party or shaving a star into hair that has been dyed a brilliant shade of green. Of course, these services represent the extreme ends of the spectrum: the staff here can tackle everything from basic cuts and color services to keratin straightening and ombre color. And, of course, the salon can also address other beauty concerns with a full slate of spa services that includes waxing, make-up application, and false strip or individual eyelashes.
Many people dream of winning an award at the Emmys, but Veronica Brayman has actually done it. Four times, in fact, for her outstanding achievements while working on As The World Turns. In addition to styling soap stars, Veronica also primped daytime talk-show hosts throughout her 17-year career. Today, she puts that authoritative expertise into running ESSA Salon & Spa, where she and her staff of stylists work with hair products including Redken, Cutler, and Kérastase to turn standard salon services, such as haircuts and color work, into opportunities for red-carpet treatment.
Veronica isn’t the only one with plenty of styling experience; many of the other staff members have been plying their trades for more than a decade, too. From senior colorist Rich Delloff’s quarter-century body of work built in New York City, Long Island, and even Las Vegas to designer Arsen Aronov’s background in New York City salons such as John Frieda, the team’s collective résumé is strong. It even includes a massage therapist, Maria Luciana, who has almost 20 years of experience. Drawing on the salon's arsenal of products, including Veronica's ESSA line of hair and makeup products and Yon-Ka Paris skincare concoctions, the stylists design detailed and flattering bridal packages, which make bridesmaids sparkle like champagne, groomsmen shine like new coins, and fire eaters look hot enough to melt Pluto.
For the past 15 years, Samantha "Sami" Angelini has been manicuring nails, banishing fuzz with honey wax, and wielding makeup brushes. She's freelanced for MAC and Laura Mercier, filling her portfolio with images that typify her natural, yet evocative makeup style. Today, she enhances eyes, lips, and cheekbones with Motives Cosmetics mineral-based makeup. She demonstrates her techniques during one-on-one lessons, and preps brides for their nuptials. Sami's artist's eye also guides her hands as she shapes brows into flattering forms—one of her specialties—or tops finger and toenails in chip-resistant polishes or thimbles.
The beauty experts at Makeup by DiLieto take the stress out of primping for weddings or other special events. They give skin a flawless finish with high-definition, silicone-based airbrush makeup and assemble hair into dramatic updos. The team also conducts weekly makeup courses, in which they detail the tools and techniques needed to create stunning looks at home.
"We're not interested in running an assembly line. Every customer is given all the time needed to achieve their desired result," explains TaNesha, owner of Solace Hair and Esthetics Studio. But customers aren't just given time; they're pampered from the moment they enter the studio, when they're handed a glass of lemon-infused spring water. Beyond its homey doors, Solace offers makeup services, facials, and waxing, and each service is lavished on guests in an attentive and individualized style. TaNesha is also the woman behind the T. Barnes Beauty Group, a collective of aestheticians, massage therapists, nail technicians, and makeup artists who provide mobile beauty services wherever they're needed.
Haircuts done at Kate Emilie's Salon feature natural looking colors, clean lines, and an overall sense of contemporary elegance. Maybe they pick up all of those qualities from the salon itself. The space is as comfortable as it is stylish, boasting cushy matte black seats, decidedly modernist mirrors and light fixtures, and wood countertops with floral highlights. In that space, the stylists deliver organic yet dazzling transformations, whether they're cutting and styling men's and women's hair, or adding a pop of color with Goldwell, Paul Mitchell, and Orbie products. They also offer waxing services for hair that isn't as welcome.
