CYT Tucson immerses kids in a supportive environment that nurtures discipline and self-confidence while instructing the future thespians in the arts of the stage. Their introductory Rising Stars program acquaints children aged 5–7 to the magic of drama through games, dance, and the lesson that emotions can be faked to influence people other than relatives and mall Santas. Older students can enroll in specialized classes and devote their attention to the triple-threat disciplines of singing, dancing, and acting. They may also branch out into specialty courses on such topics as improv and stage fighting. Leading its charges through the production of a fully realized musical, the center also stages several shows, including past productions of Pocahontas and Annie in recent years.
Located on the University of Arizona’s campus, the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium opens the eyes of all ages to the scientific wonders of our planet, solar system, and universe. The center houses a mineral collection that dates back to 1892, and now holds more than 26,000 specimens including meteorites and minerals from Arizona, Mexico, and elsewhere in the world. They also feature exhibits such as an exploration of Arizona’s Sky Islands—mountains that rise above the desert basins and shelter myriad plants, birds, and animals. TEAM Arizona Motorcyclist Training has trained more than 100,000 motorcyclists in the ways of safe and secure riding. A staff of 70 RiderCoaches, including more female RiderCoaches than any organization in the country, impart basic to advanced riding skills, allowing students to translate classroom lessons into on-the-road expertise. At TEAM Arizona?s 5-acre training range in Gilbert, experienced students sharpen their abilities at Skills Practice sessions. Advanced and Total Control students master high-challenge, low-threat coursework, including treacherous trail braking while completing 1099 tax forms.
