As part of the organization’s Santa Cruz River restoration project, volunteers will replant native mesquite trees and combat invasive species such as Russian thistle, amaranth, and bermuda grass. Volunteers will also conduct water-harvesting tasks such as earth contouring and rock work to help slow the flow of water and increase water infiltration in order to reduce erosion and promote the growth of native vegetation. The restoration project needs funding so that the Sonoran Institute can purchase supplies including an emergency-first-aid kit, pruning shears, spade shovels, McLeod rakes and hoes for water harvesting, and snacks for volunteers.
As their name implies, the technicians at Data Doctors see computers as patients, and look to cure CPU maladies rather than simply treating symptoms. In the span of a short wait, the team diagnoses the problem at hand and determines the best course of action, should it be repairs, upgrades, or complete replacements. The winner of a Spirit of Enterprise Award by the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and fluent in both Windows and Mac systems, the computer sleuths root out viruses and spyware, optimize drives with defragmentation and registry cleaning, and even delve into cases to drive out fan-choking dust and infestations of robotic ants. Once services are complete, they chat with each customer to explain how best to prevent a return visit.
The team's expertise also extends to the sale and setting up of new computers, including the safe transfer of data from old hard drives to new ones. To keep businesses running smoothly, Data Doctors can set up new networks, lend supplemental IT help, and recover data lost to the void.
Metro Car Wash's meticulous technicians and loaded wash and detail packages have earned them the back-to-back title of Tucson Weekly's Best Car Wash in 2011 and 2012. Determined to make both Metro Car Wash locations stand apart from faceless car-washing chains, owners Craig and Sean strive to add personal touches to both locations. To that end, the Speedway facility is known for its outdoor track where customers can observe their car during a wash and croon it soothing lullabies to calm its nerves. The owners and staff have also built a community partnership program to donate a portion of their funds to nonprofit organizations each quarter.
