At Silhouette Organic Beauty Lounge, guests enjoy a completely organic experience. Along with the organic hair and skincare products—many of which are also vegan, gluten-free, or wheat-free—the beauty lounge also provides local, organic teas for guests. The spa even features LED lighting, which is softer on the eyes than fluorescent lighting or interrogations done with the spotlights used to illuminate the space shuttle at night.
While the choice of beauty services can vary widely—from a keratin treatment to lash extensions or a mani-pedi—there's a common purpose in all of them. The staff aims to have guests leave feeling refreshed and beautiful, which is easier to guarantee since there are no harmful chemicals used in the services.
The stylists at Gina Salon (located at Salon Melini) have a shared love: showing their clients how great hairstyle can dramatically change their entire look. They do this by snipping hair into a fresh style, adding new texture or length with perms, straightening, and extensions, and improving hair health by coating strands with damage-repairing deep conditioners or spoon-feeding them chicken soup. Each service starts with a free consultation to determine the client's desired outcome and give them peace of mind, so they can sit back, relax, and just enjoy the experience.
The stylists at Thai A Chau Salon perform precision cuts, artistic color services, and professional smoothing treatments that turn tumbleweeds of tresses into soft, silky heads of hair. Their methods include Japanese hair straightening, Brazilian blowouts, and keratin treatments, all of which help tame frizz and add luster to locks. The beauty experts also keep brows arched and upper lips smooth with waxing services, and lashes looking dramatic with eyelash extensions.
Mode Organic Salon's multitalented staff transforms visitors into beacons for compliments with its beauty-boosting expertise and arsenal of organic products enriched with natural ingredients. The salon?s hairstylists refresh locks with Davines nourishing conditioner, which is empowered by vitamins, amino acids, and essential oils. The team also resurrects graying hairs with coloring products free of commonly used harsh substances, such as ammonia, resorcinol, and lead-based house paint. The facility?s aestheticians keep skin in fine fettle with ?minence Organic Skin Care salves, and unwanted hair is kept at bay with organic waxing.
Mode Organic Salon's commitment to organic practices extends beyond its services: even its complimentary beverages and business practices are eco-friendly. Mode Organic Salon?s strong emphasis on organic standards also helped earn it a spot on Seattle magazine's Best of the Decade list.
Most professional stylists loathe cancelled appointments, but not Graeme Welsh. Graeme is a volunteer stylist at Seattle Children's Hospital, where a cancellation means his client has made a recovery––and that's always a good thing. In a recent Channel 5 feature, Graeme discussed the many silver linings of his hospital work, as well as the hurdles. "When I first started 15 years ago, it was just a chair amongst all the volunteers folding envelopes," says the native Australian. "I had a chair, and a mirror and a water spray and that was it."
Today Graeme is in much better company. He has his own hospital room for styling, and is joined by several other stylists keen on his cause. What's more, some former patients have become recurrent clients, stopping in for a trim en route to their own hospital volunteer work. When not changing lives at the hospital, Graeme helms his own successful styling studio––Three Graces Salon, off 65th St. The space is as bright as his personality. Golden walls and wood floors beam with natural light as he infuses strands with bold highlights and frames haircuts to flatter his appreciative clientele.
What do you get when a chemistry major with an artistic streak and a restaurant manager team up? You get a salon that creates jaw-droppingly naturalistic hair colors and runs like clockwork. The brains behind the operation are Gary Howse and Manuel Benevich—the founders of Gary Manuel Studio. After joining forces in 1979, the duo quickly started racking up accolades from the likes of Allure, Vogue, Glamour, and Highlights. They’ve also established their own Aveda Institute, where they teach the art of environmentally-friendly hair care and cosmetology to fledgling stylists.
