Tulsa Glassblowing Studio’s instructors introduce students to the art and care of glasswork in lessons lasting 30–40 minutes. Under the trained tutelage of a master, students learn to manipulate molten glass to create delicate flowers complete with pulled petals and air-catching glass pollen. Pupils get hands-on experience with the tools necessary to wield colorful melted sand as instructors aid with the more difficult processes such as gathering, reheating, and sweet-talking the lava-like substance into a vibrant flowery shape, which students can then take home. The professionally maintained, well-equipped studio glows orange with the furnace’s blistering flames, tended by experienced artists.
Inside Vixen Studio, floor-to-ceiling mirrors reflect a sprung oak dance floor that supports six Platinum Stages dance poles, the equipment of choice for the studio's pole-fitness classes. During each class, the studio’s team of experienced instructors supervises and spots dancers of all ability levels as they spin, twirl, and perform aerial maneuvers while toning their muscles. But the invigorating blend of intense cardio work and strength training isn’t the only draw of the classes, which also help vixens tap into their wild side with suggestive moves and complimentary duck calls. All the tantalizing adult-themed classes are female-only to preserve each student's privacy and comfort level; men are only allowed into a class if it says "coed." In addition to the signature pole-dancing classes, Vixen Studio also host traditional fitness classes such as aerobics, yoga, and Pilates, as well as alluring burlesque-themed workouts, belly dancing, and calorie-burning striptease lessons.
Clad in their families' colored tartans, members of more than 30 Scottish clans gather on festival grounds in Tulsa for the annual Scotfest, Oklahoma's largest Celtic music festival. Scottish traditions are passed on to festival patrons with a showcase of Highland crafts, educational workshops, and strongman Scottish games, in which more than 60 athletes compete in games that include tire flips, truck pulls, and tug of war.
Scotch tastings will feature Rubright & Hardagain answering questions about different types of scotch, the distilling process, and why some whiskies are resentful about being locked in barrels for years. Meanwhile, vendors refuel visitors with authentic Scottish food before sending them off to dance to traditional folk and Celtic rock acts such as Celtica, Tullamore, Wicked Tinkers, Seven Nations, Murder the Stout, and Celtic-influenced Texas rock band Cleghorn. A designated children's area is available for youngsters to play in.
A group of bridesmaids surrounds the bride for a postceremony photo. As the flashbulb goes off, the photographer, Andy Leithner, is smiling along with them. This is just one of the more than 1,500 weddings he has shot in his 26-year career, a kind of longevity attributed to his enthusiasm for capturing his subjects' energy. Having developed a photojournalistic, bride-focused approach to the big day has made him a seven-time winner of Oklahoma State's Best Custom Wedding Album award. Since training at both the Texas School of Photography and the Delta School of Photography, the award-winning portrait photographer has also documented innumerable graduations, births, and clouds shaped like Ansel Adams. In addition to owning Andy's Fine Portraits, he has been invited to serve as a visiting photography lecturer for the Professional Photographers of America and at Tulsa Junior College.
