Camp Gladiator founder Ally Davidson’s childhood obsession with the outdoors and sports led her to pursue a degree in sports science. After her 2008 win on the TV show American Gladiators, Ally decided to share her love of fitness with the world at large. Camp Gladiator reflects Ally's passion for fitness in its mission, which espouses their desire "to positively impact the physical fitness and ultimately the lives of as many people as possible." Davidson also leads boot camps in 10 U.S. cities, with each hosting multiple training locales. • Great Urban Race
In addition to the sense of perseverance and accomplishment that comes with finishing a 5K, the organizers of the Bacon Chase have added another incentive: bacon. During their two races?the 5K Piggy Pilgrimage, which is a traditional 5K, and the 0.05K Blitz to Bacon, which is a 164-foot sprint?runners can munch on unlimited bacon bits before feasting on unlimited amounts of bacon at the finish line. Runners 21 and older can wash down the savory strips of bacon with a bloody mary, and all runners get a Bacon Chase T-shirt and a signature bacon-scented bib. The festival opens at 8 a.m. and features many bacon-themed activities, plus music. The festive day serves a greater purpose, too. Attendees will be able to register to become a St. Jude Hero, raise money for St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, or both.

  • Dallas Workout The Gym
When Roald Dahl wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he imagined a much-coveted golden ticket that granted access to myriad wonders and unveiled the inner workings of an entire industry. MetaBody created a real-life version of that ticket with the MetaBody Yoga & Fitness Pass, though it applies to fitness instead of candy. The pass grants access not to a single gym but to classes at a variety of local studios, specializing in everything from yoga to boot camp. With the freedom to move from location to location, students can sample different regimens, instructors, and styles of exercise to cobble together a program that fits their needs and goals. MetaBody's nutritionists supplement class packages by coaching clients in healthy eating, recipe cooking, and speed-reading nutrition-fact labels.

  • International Museum of Cultures
Though many anthropological museums focus on peoples who are long gone, the International Museum of Cultures displays more than 10 storied exhibits on contemporary indigenous populations from around the world, including Papua New Guinea, Mexico, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Here, visitors glean insight into the respective cultures and the challenges they face. As guests peruse the displays, they can explore Lakota Sioux artifacts such as dream catchers and arrowheads, learn about the hunter-gatherer Agta from the Philippines, and listen to Drumbeats of the World, an interactive exhibit that pulsates with percussive heartbeats from Ecuador, Pakistan, and Korea.

  • North Texas Pioneers Rotary Club
Exploring a city can take a lifetime, but it is a brisk, timed challenge during The Amazing MetroQuest, an event designed in the tradition of CBS’s Amazing Race. Guided by their smartphones, duos dart through their metropolis, competing in whimsical challenges and toting packets of 10–12 clues. Each clue translates to a site the team must visit. Officials dole out prizes at the quest’s end, awarding not only the fastest teams, but also the ones with the best costumes to ensure not everyone runs in the same clearance-sale bear suit.

  • Camp Gladiator Victory Park
Motivation to work out sometimes requires that you light a fire inside yourself, but not the kind you endured during your fire-eating internship at the circus. For $69, today's Groupon gets new clients four weeks of unlimited sessions at Camp Gladiator (a $160 value). This deal is good during any of Camp Gladiator's 36 workout times at all Dallas-area locations. Bring your own mat, towel, water, and sweat (and for the truly prepared, a jump rope and pair of dumbbells). Camp Gladiator is a fitness boot camp far different than the boot camp disobedient teenagers are sent to on Maury. Feel the burn under the watchful eye of experienced trainers in a program founded by Ally Davidson—also known as the 2008 American Gladiator Grand Champion. No drill sergeants will be barking commands through cigars as you drop and give them 200 push-ups in the rain at this fitness boot camp, but there will be obstacle courses, tug of war, plyometrics, sprint and agility drills, and, well, some push-ups. As with personal trainers, fitness boot camps deliver results. Unlike with personal trainers, however, this deal lets you attend as many sessions as you like at whatever location you choose. Regardless of how many times you have been named American Gladiator or Ninja Warrior, fitness boot camp is beneficial for those looking to lose some pounds, try something new, or gain the endurance that cheetahs would and have killed for. Reviews Seven Yelpers and three Google Mappers give Camp Gladiator five stars: I Love Camp Gladiator. – Lori P., Yelp This bootcamp will kick your ass and then laugh while you lie writhing on the floor...but in a good way! – Jessica M., Yelp This class is so much fun that you lose track of how much work you are actually doing. The instructors are very motivational! – Scott, Google Maps
