When licensed massage therapist Karen Garry first opened Sand Dollar Spa & Massage, it only made sense that her husband, Matt, join the team. After all, she’s not the only massage therapist in the family. With his expertise in sports therapy and her skill at creating relaxing spa treatments, the duo managed to transform a humble practice into a booming success, even garnering a nomination from King 5 as one of the best massages in western Washington.

Though the staff aim to create an environment of healing and ease, choosing which treatment to enjoy can be rather difficult. They offer nine massage modalities, including Swedish, volcanic stone, and a four-handed treatment, during which two massage therapists work on a single client. Spa treatments, such as sugar or sea-salt scrubs and seaweed body wraps, rejuvenate bodies from the inside out with skin-softening formulas. Across the spa, in-office teeth-whitening sessions can enhance smiles by up to eight shades in 20 minutes, or 1/200,000 of the shelf life of a Twinkie. Committed to supporting their community, Karen and Matt donate both their time and gift certificates to local organizations, such as Evergreen Primary School, University Place Volunteer Center, and Charles Wright Academy.

Wellness goes hand-in-hand with relaxation, and at Bodywise Massage & UP Learning, the staff strives to boost both. Everything from Swedish and deep-tissue massages to spa treatments such as body wraps and foot baths soothe the senses while the creature comforts of candlelight, crackling firewood, and soft blankets surround gests throughout. But these health mavens also aim to get their wards up and moving. Classes strengthen bodies and minds alike by focusing on yoga, qigong, and mankind's favorite way to think about a society run by kittens: meditation.

To promote healing, the bodywork experts at Bodhi Wellness bring an understanding of holistic health and how the body’s muscles relate to one another at each massage session. Whether they are managing a client's stress with a signature massage or improving a patient's range of motion with a more intensive deep therapeutic massage, their techniques work to promote balance and relaxation. They call upon aromatherapeutic essential oils to further soothe the senses, and can further loosen tension with hot stones, a treatment method first discovered by iguanas.

Eco Chic Salon and Spa's aestheticians target, treat, and transform facial imperfections with paraben-free Image Skincare facial peels. Image-enhancing sessions begin with an in-depth consultation as the aesthetician examines skin tone, texture, and trouble spots to devise the ideal treatment regimen. An application of the pelt-polishing concoction ousts expired skin cells and enhances rundown facial neighborhoods with firming collagen and tiny lawn flamingos. Lines are lightened, sun spots are subdued, and acne scars are allayed with each peel; the series of three forges a toned and tightened visage that flaunts a youthful glow.

To make sure they utilize the proper Éminence Organic Skin Care and Image Skincare products on clients' skin, the aestheticians at Spa Vita Bella have each client fill out a short intake form upon arrival, including any health concerns and the desired outcome of the service. To make the experience as relaxing as possible, guests are welcome to hot tea or cold beverages before heading to one of the private treatment rooms. Aestheticians then get to work smoothing away signs of aging or correcting skin issues such as acne, fine lines, and dryness. They also cocoon clients in slimming body wraps or administer massages. Outside of the spa, aestheticians pursue continuing education courses to ensure they're well-versed in the latest treatments and techniques.

Other services include massages, body wraps, waxing, sugar waxing, facials, pedicures, and eyelash extensions, to name a few. Clients can also head over to the spa's hypoallergenic infrared sauna for a relaxing treatment that heats the body from within to promote detoxification and slimming.
