Inspired by the community acupuncture sessions that have been practiced in Asia for thousands of years, licensed acupuncturist Faune Towery created Napa Acupuncture Practice, a quiet, comfortable center where clients can receive treatments in a group setting at a modest price. After completing a new-patient intake survey to determine the goals of their treatment, clients enter the communal space and settle into one of the zero-gravity chairs.
Once clients have a chance to relax, Faune inserts fine, sterile needles according to their individual needs. Some people find that the group energy contributes to their sense of calm, and once their needles are inserted, clients are welcome to nap for 45 minutes or more, depending on available space. Due to the public setting clients remain clothed throughout their session, but it's recommended that they wear loose-fitting garments so that sleeves and pant legs can be rolled up to expose the skin as necessary.
As the chief clinical hypnotherapist at Napa Hypnosis, Christine Hannah uses interview techniques, discussions, and hypnotic methods to help clients access the power of the subconscious mind. Christine, the founder and owner of the center, received her diploma in hypnotherapy from the American Council of Hypnotists Examiners and graduated from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute. She conducts customized hypnotherapy sessions designed to promote weight loss, curb smoking, or improve public speaking abilities. Christine can even specialize visits to help people enhance their golf game by visualizing success or building a desktop course with Pixy Stix–filled sandpits and Sixlets golf balls.
"Health," say the staffers at Vibrant Health Acupuncture, "has the potential to be much more than the absence of illness." True health, according to the practice's guiding philosophy, includes wellness of the mind, body, and spirit. This holistic approach informs all the techniques employed by Vibrant Health's clinicians. In addition to acupuncture, they perform cupping and use Chinese herbs to help patients feel better.
Gerner Chiropractic’s owner and namesake, Dr. Lynn Gerner, helms a team of three chiropractic doctors who take care to tailor their treatment plans to individual clients. It helps that each of the doctors brings a unique perspective to the practice. For example, Dr. Gerner's background in personal training and her current work as a birth coach account for her holistic approach and extensive anatomical knowledge. Dr. Bryon Cloyd, on the other hand, brings a worldly perspective, which he gained while volunteering his services to patients in Nicaragua and performing complimentary sports physicals for local students. Dr. Liliana Ulloa-Butler—a graduate of UC-Davis—specializes in treating new moms, infants, and children. She speaks fluent Spanish, which serves her well when adjusting the misaligned spines of Spanish-language textbooks.
Regardless of which doctor they visit, patients begin treatment with a consultation and a discussion about the nervous system's influence on physical and emotional health. Together, doctor and patient decide on a course of care that may include massage, spinal adjustments, craniosacral therapy, or passive-motion therapy.
At Lifeline Acupuncture & Herbs Clinic, licensed acupuncturist Hong Joon Lee works to alleviate acute and chronic pain. He draws from years of experience, customizing a combination of acupuncture and herbal supplements for conditions ranging from sore necks and headaches to upset stomachs and fatigue.
