In the summer of 2003, Nancy Mudford made her dream of owning a small business come true by transforming an old video store into her own full-service spa. Inspired by the sun-soaked hillsides of rural France, she renovated the space with the help of interior designer and a bunch of painstakingly selected Benjamin Moore paints. Now done over in an elegant Old-World colour palette, the beautiful spa houses a team of certified technicians whose specialized skincare talent has helped the spa win numerous awards. The aestheticians’ microdermabrasion treatments, when paired with facial peels, work to thoroughly exfoliate dead skin cells from faces and unearth new, brighter complexions. During spa pedicures, techs beautify clients’ toes and vestigial fins with Footlogix, OPI, and other brand-name products.

While Vancouver College of Massage Therapy's staff of registered massage therapists, chiropractors, and doctors trains a new generation of muscle-healers, they emphasize not only the clinical side of their wellness practice, but the human side as well. Students learn in a culture that emphasizes caring, and are employed in outreach programs that partner with health organizations such as Onsite, Homestead, Helping Spirit Lodge, and Friends for Life. Their training and passion for helping others results in a clinic where the team members and students alike perform massage and hydrotherapy treatments with the utmost care, playing a part in a fully holistic healthcare experience.
When Lindsay Walker opened Ascent Wellness & Aromatherapy, it was important to her that the spa would use only all-natural and fair-trade products, from brands such as Seaflora. Made locally on Vancouver Island, Seaflora is a blend of seaweed and other organic botanicals that help reverse the signs of aging without using any chemicals. Besides facials, clients may request a waxing session, a manicure with vegan nail polish, or a soothing aromatherapy massage performed in a private treatment room. Deep-tissue and hot-stone massages are also available.
