Maas Photo Studio's professional photographers ("soul stealers" in some regional vernacular) are experts at coaxing fussy parents, blasé babies, and scowling high-school seniors into perfectly posed photographic subjects. After your one-hour photo session (up to a $60 value), which can focus on whole families and Lone Rangers alike, choose five of your favorite images to be or not to be digitally edited and burned onto a disc for your keeping (a $100 value). You'll have full rights to print these images as many times as you like. For an extra $100, you can get the remainder of the unedited images on a disc, as well as 25% off on any prints. Extra shoot time will cost $20 per hour.

Since 1985, South Dakota Magazine’s writers have traversed their home state to unearth unique stories about its past and present. From their Yankton offices, housed in three old brick buildings built in the 1870s by Territorial Governor John Pennington, staffers recall tales from their travels with entertaining articles paired with full-color photos. Recipes for prize-winning pies share space with accounts of outdoor excursions, previews of upcoming events, and historical articles documenting little-known pieces of South Dakota’s past. One issue is sent to subscribers every two months, giving them plenty of time to read every article and plan which outfit they will wear when reading the next.

A bridal party in a sunlit field lofting matching parasols. A group of groomsmen mid-leap. A newlywed couple kissing in the street. These are just some of the sentiment-inducing scenes that photographer Shalista Anderson has choreographed and captured at her eponymous studio. From behind her lens, she artfully snaps an eclectic array of styles, with subject matter ranging from high-school seniors as they contemplate graduation to gals lounging in delicate lingerie for boudoir shoots. During family-portrait sessions, Anderson specializes in engaging newborns and kids with her sunny demeanor, rather than simply bribing them with Monopoly money, resulting in natural-looking photos that bring out their personalities.
