In Renato Tavares's storied career, which spans more than three decades if you count the 90s, he's won more than 200 grappling and Brazilian jiujitsu championships around the world. With all this experience tucked under his black belt, Renato decided to open up American Top Team. In this spacious 6,000-square-foot facility, he joins forces with a staff of four other black belts to teach students the discipline and artistry of mixed martial arts. Each week they churn through more than 30 classes targeted to men, women, and kids of all skill levels. These classes focus on the aforementioned Brazilian jiujitsu and grappling, as well as self-defense, kickboxing, and combat striking.
Led by board-certified chiropractic physician Matthew Schiermyer D.C., the staff at Indian River Chiropractic analyzes each client before personalizing their treatments from an arsenal of chiropractic techniques. These can include everything from massages, impulse instruments, and x-rays, which are handled onsite. Often, Dr. Schiermyer tends to his patients' spinal woes on the same day as their treatments, and sends them off with homework to maintain happy nervous systems for the long term.
At Next Level Fitness Vero Beach, the staff—which includes two instructors certified in the Ginastica Natural body-weight training method—strives to make exercise less intimidating. That's why they schedule one-on-one personal-training sessions that allow exercisers to work out alone instead of in front of a million bodybuilders. Complementing the private workouts are boot-camp, martial-arts, and self-defense classes.
